RBR-Technologies is seeking a Software Test Engineer to support one of our customers in Odenton, Maryland.
Our work centers on technology modernization for Industrial Security, enabling analytic capabilities for industry partners and government analysts. This ongoing effort involves developing solutions that collect, store, automate, and centralize data to support risk analysis for entities in the Defense Industrial Base (DIB).
The Senior Software Test Engineer will play a lead role in testing and validating data analytic services that integrate with web applications to extract insights from commercial and government datasets. As a member of the NISS Increment II Test Team, this position will be responsible for driving test strategy, ensuring quality standards are met, and mentoring junior test engineers. The candidate will engage directly with stakeholders, guide discussions around testing approaches, and ensure deliverables support operational IT solutions in compliance with system requirements and policy.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead test planning and execution for data analytic services and integrated web applications.
- Translate complex system requirements into robust, detailed test strategies, cases, and procedures.
- Define, document, and maintain test processes, procedures, and reports to support project deliverables.
- Review software requirements, architecture, and design to identify test coverage and risk areas.
- Conduct functional, regression, integration, and usability testing with a focus on data quality and performance.
- Analyze test results, documenting database impacts, system errors, usability findings, and performance metrics.
- Present clear, actionable test reports and recommendations to development and design teams.
- Collaborate with clients, engineers, and analysts to align testing efforts with evolving requirements.
- Participate in design reviews, contributing expertise on testability, system integrity, and potential risks.
- Mentor and, when needed, coordinate activities of junior test engineers to ensure effective execution of test objectives.
REQUIREMENTS
- Active Top Secret clearance
- Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of progressive, relevant software testing experience (in lieu of a degree, an additional 4 years of experience may be substituted)
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision and deliver results in fast-paced environments
- Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including requirements collection, validation, and decomposition
- Solid knowledge of agile software development methodologies and test practices within iterative development cycles
- Security+ Certification (CompTIA)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and secure agile practices
- Experience using the Atlassian tool suite (JIRA, Confluence) for requirements, test case management, and defect tracking
- Strong background in DoD testing policies and procedures, including familiarity with DoD Instruction 5000.87 - Software Acquisition Pathway
- Proficiency in test automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, JUnit, TestNG, Playwright, or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of software QA methodologies, tools, and processes.
- Experience testing applications in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP), containerized platforms (Docker, Kubernetes), and/or service mesh environments.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab, GitHub Actions) and integrating automated tests into the delivery process.
- Competency with API testing tools (Postman, REST Assured, SoapUI) and performance/load testing tools (JMeter, Gatling).
- Working knowledge of programming or scripting languages (Java, Python, JavaScript, or similar).
- Experience with secure coding/testing practices and compliance-driven testing (e.g., NIST, DoD STIGs, RMF) if in a government/regulated space.
