IT Network Engineer
to support the deployment, configuration, and sustainment of a secure, mission-critical infrastructure and communication systems for a new Navy C4I lab. This position will require engineering experience and rigor to help design and build the network transport portion of the lab, to include support sustainment activities once completed. Additionally, this individual must be willing to learn/support platform engineering/sustainment activities as they come online (e.g., Windows/Linux administration, virtualization, hybrid-cloud), working in concert with IT Platform Engineers/Administrators. Individual must be willing to be a cross-functional team member.
You will design, implement, and manage a classified lab environment supporting Command and Control (C2), secure communications, and data exchange across tactical and enterprise networks. This role also involves integration with coalition partner systems to enhance joint interoperability and mission success.
Job Summary:
Work is primarily performed on site in San Diego, CA and has some hybrid remote flexibility. You must live in the local area to frequently come on site.
Responsibilities:
Design, deploy, and manage secure LAN/WAN networks, routers, switches, firewalls, and encryption devices per DoD standards
Configure Cisco ASA with Firepower Threat Defense (FTD) for perimeter security and intrusion prevention
Manage Cisco Catalyst Edge Routers and deploy Cisco SD-WAN for WAN integration and SATCOM communications
Integrate, configure, and sustain coalition communication systems such as Link 16, Link 22, TTNT, MIDS-JTRS, and Mission Partner Environment (MPE) for joint and combined operations
Support interoperability with systems like CENTRIXS, CJSMPT, and NATO Improved Link 11 (NILE) as required for mission objectives
Implement and manage timing and synchronization devices to ensure network integrity
Deploy and monitor next-gen encryption devices (e.g., TACLANE)
Manage physical data center infrastructure-racks, PDUs, airflow, and remote KVM access
Develop comprehensive technical documentation, network diagrams, and system support guides
Serve as a key point of contact with government stakeholders and coalition partners for lab buildout and operations

Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience:
4+ years of direct IT systems engineering, networking, or cybersecurity experience supporting DoD or federal systems
Hands-on experience with:
Cisco ASA / Firepower Threat Defense
Cisco Catalyst routers/switches
Experienced with implementing, configuration, and troubleshooting related protocols (e.g., OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, VRF, HSRP, VRRP, RSTP, MSTP, PVST)
SD-WAN technologies and support protocols (e.g., OMP)
Unified Communications platforms and C2 applications
KVM switch and rack-mounted infrastructure setup
Experience working with encryption devices, network timing, and classified communications systems
Proven ability to operate independently in a mission-critical, high-pressure environment
Hands-on integration or operational experience with coalition tactical data links or mission partner networks such as Link 16, Link 22, TTNT, MIDS-JTRS, MPE, or NILE
Proven ability to operate independently in a mission-critical, high-pressure environment
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Cisco Certifications CCNA, CCNP is highly preferred
Experience with naval or coalition maritime operations and communications systems
Familiarity with DoD architecture frameworks and system acquisition lifecycle
Prior experience supporting joint or coalition networks
Strong system documentation, diagramming, and technical leadership skills
Education and Certification Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field
Must hold at least one IAT Level II/III certification (per DoD 8570/8140), such as:
Security+ CE (CompTIA)
CCNA Security / Cisco CyberOps Associate
Preferred Computing Environment Certifications:
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
Cisco SD-WAN Specialist
Cisco Certified CyberOps Professional
Citizenship and Clearance Requirement:
Active Secret or Top Secret Clearance required
U.S. Citizenship required
