Senior Design Engineer - $120-$130K Position Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Design Engineer to lead the upfront manufacturing engineering of high precision customer designs and brazed assemblies for aerospace and defense applications. This individual will be responsible for concept development, detailed design, DFM/DFA and support throughout the product lifecycle, with an emphasis on engineered brazed joints and precision-machined components. Key Responsibilities: • Lead mechanical design efforts for machined parts and brazed assemblies using Solidworks. • Apply engineering fundamentals to develop robust, lightweight, and thermally/mechanically efficient designs compliant with aerospace and defense standards. • Define and develop joint designs for high-temperature brazing, ensuring joint geometry, clearances, and material compatibility meet design and manufacturing requirements. • Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, and materials engineering to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective. • Generate and maintain complete engineering documentation, including drawings, BOMs, specifications, and test plans. • Review customer design packages for completeness and overall DFM. Recommend improvements to lower cost and increase product quality. • Design, document, and assemble manufacturing work-holding and inspection fixtures. • Lead or contribute to design reviews, root cause investigations, and continuous improvement initiative. • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers. • Interface with customers and suppliers on technical issues, design intent, and product requirements. • Ensure all designs adhere to applicable industry regulations and standards. Skills and Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field. • 7+ years of experience in mechanical design within the aerospace and/or defense industry. • Proven experience in designing components involving precision machining, ?ght tolerances, and high-temperature brazed joints. • Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and CNC machining processes (milling, turning, grinding). • Familiarity with common mil-spec machined part materials • 7+ years of experience with SolidWorks including solid modeling parts, creating and ending complex assemblies, and creating professional level engineering drawings meeting ASME standards. • Familiarity with AS9100, ITAR, and aerospace customer specifications. • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams. • Experience with vacuum and dip brazing process design. • Background in defense contracting or experience working with DoD primes • Working knowledge of manufacturing process validation and first article inspection (FAI).
