Description Lee County DOT is seeking a motivated Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or a recently licensed Professional Engineer (PE) to join our Traffic Engineering Team. This is a growth-oriented role designed for individuals who are building their expertise in traffic engineering and aspire to take on leadership roles within the public infrastructure sector. Under the guidance of the County Traffic Engineer, youll gain hands-on experience managing and improving a complex and evolving roadway and traffic signal network. This includes working on cutting-edge Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and helping operate 450+ traffic signals across all jurisdictions within Lee County. Duties and Responsibilities Assist in setting priorities and developing plans for roadway, signal, and system improvements.

Conduct traffic field reviews and support traffic operations and safety studies.

Help monitor and adjust traffic signal timing, including response to special events or incidents.

Contribute to a corridor retiming program to optimize operations across 450+ signals.

Participate in inter-agency committees (CTST, TMOC, BPAC, etc.) and public engagement.

Manage and analyze traffic volume and condition data; contribute to annual reports.

Review roadway construction plans with attention to traffic safety and multimodal accommodations.

Prepare and present technical reports and recommendations for roadway improvements.

Respond to citizen requests and perform investigations related to traffic concerns.

Perform related work as assigned.

Education, Experience, Licensing Minimum Qualifications Bachelors degree in Engineering (or a closely related field), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

2 years of experience in engineering, project management, or a related field.

Possession of a valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record is required.

Preferred Qualifications Engineering Intern (EI/EIT) certification with the ability to obtain a Florida Professional Engineer (PE) License upon meeting the required experience and testing criteria. A bachelors degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program (or equivalent) is required for PE licensure.

Professional Engineer (PE) license in Florida. A bachelors degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program (or equivalent) is required for PE licensure.

Professional Engineer (PE) license in any U.S. state, with the ability to obtain a Florida PE license upon meeting the required endorsement criteria. A bachelors degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program (or equivalent) is required for PE licensure.

Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification is a plus.
