Job description:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented

Commercial HVAC Start-Up Technician

to join our client's team.

Must have VRF experience.

This position is responsible for performing the start-up, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of commercial HVAC systems in accordance with manufacturer specifications, project plans, and local codes. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of commercial HVAC equipment, controls, and start-up procedures, and will ensure systems are operating at peak performance.We are looking for a versatile individual willing to assist with simple mini-split installations or running copper lines between startups.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform start-up and commissioning of commercial HVAC systems, including RTUs, AHUs, VAVs, chillers, boilers, pumps, and VRF/VRV systems.

Verify electrical and mechanical equipment installation against design documents and manufacturer requirements.

Conduct system diagnostics and performance testing; make necessary adjustments to achieve optimal system operation.

Calibrate and program HVAC control systems (BAS/DDC/EMS) as required.

Complete and submit detailed start-up and commissioning reports, including measurements, checklists, and photos.

Collaborate with construction teams, controls technicians, project managers, and engineers to resolve start-up issues.

Ensure compliance with local mechanical and electrical codes, as well as company safety standards.

Provide training to building maintenance personnel and end-users on basic HVAC system operation.

Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, commissioning logs, and issue resolutions.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent; HVAC trade school or technical certification preferred.

Minimum of 2 years of hands-on HVAC start-up or service experience in a commercial setting.

Proficient in reading mechanical, electrical, and control wiring diagrams.

Knowledge of HVAC systems, including rooftop units, chillers, split systems, and hydronic systems.

Familiarity with control systems such as Trane, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, or similar.

Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification required.

Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Ability to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in various weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with test and balance (TAB) procedures.

OSHA 10/30 certification.

Experience working on LEED or energy-efficient buildings.

Familiarity with commissioning software (e.g., Bluebeam, Fieldwire, Procore).
