The Programmer/Lead Electrician will serve as the alternating console programmer/operator and electrician for main stage productions. This position also assists the Manager of Lighting and Video and its partner Electrician in the installation, maintenance, and strike of theatrical lighting and video equipment at Zach Theater in all its spaces. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Serves as the lead programmer and lead electrician for alternating mainstage productions. During show calls, leads the lighting team (spots and deck electrician if present) in daily pre-show and post-show duties to ensure optimal functionality and operation of all present lighting and video equipment. Coordinates with the Manager of Lighting and Video to lead crews during load-in and changeover, including show-specific prep such as lighting rigging, building booms, and installation of practicals. Assists the Manager of Lighting and Video and partner Electrician with installation, maintenance, and organization of lighting and video equipment for all productions. Assists in recruiting and training lighting technicians. Ensures that every light plot is hung, focused, and circuited on schedule and safely. Works with Designers, the Manager of Lighting and Video, and the partner Electrician to keep lighting paperwork current using VectorWorks, Lightwright, and other tools to ensure timely and budget-friendly delivery of lighting packages. Maintains safe and clean lighting and video storage and work areas. Oversees management of electronic inventories, video systems, projectors, tracks needs, and logs repairs and issues. Participates in departmental and organizational outreach and education programs. Attends staff and department meetings. Engages in training to develop skills and grow professionally. Oversees lighting needs for other Zach events as assigned, with design opportunities as available. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements: 2-3+ years of experience in lighting within a regional theatre setting. Proven field experience demonstrating necessary skills and knowledge. High school diploma required; Bachelors degree preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of DMX512 and ETCNet control systems. Experience with theatrical lighting consoles, especially ETC Eos Family, including programming and setup. Understanding of theatrical lighting equipment, including conventional, scrollers, and automated lighting. Ability to read light plots, drawings, and paperwork. Skill in the safe installation and maintenance of lighting equipment. Experience operating counterweight fly systems safely. Ability to operate light boards and spotlights during productions. Competence in reading industry documentation such as hookups, schedules, and plans. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Attention to detail and adaptability. Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Ability to build collaborative relationships across departments. Effective management of processes and systems. Ability to handle change and prioritize multiple tasks. Commitment to reflecting Zach Theaters values in all work. Physical Demands and Work Environment This is an on-site role. The physical demands include sitting/standing for long periods, climbing ladders, lifting up to 60 lbs, working in low lighting, and working in noisy environments. Must have a valid drivers license and reliable transportation. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is required. Organizational Relationships Reports to: Manager of Lighting and Video. Supports: Production, overhire crews, spot operators, and other departments.
