About the Position
VHB is searching for a seasoned transportation engineer to become part of our dynamic Transportation Systems team as a Senior Project Manager and Active Transportation Safety Lead. This exciting opportunity is perfect for a traffic engineer with extensive project management experience and expertise in safety, active transportation, and multi-modal traffic analysis and design. You'll collaborate with public and private clients on impactful projects that range from planning and concept development to comprehensive traffic operations and safety studies across the Southeast.

Key Responsibilities:
Act as Project Manager and Task Lead on traffic studies, safety projects, and multimodal design initiatives, ensuring adherence to schedules, budgets, deliverables, and quality standards.
Lead and support the development of multimodal traffic operations analyses, active transportation planning, corridor studies, and statewide safety programs.
Utilize advanced modeling and simulation tools such as Synchro, SimTraffic, SIDRA, and VISSIM to assess operations and enhance mobility strategies.
Formulate recommendations for safety enhancements, active transportation initiatives, complete streets strategies, and traffic operational improvements.
Contribute to and lead Roadway Safety Audits (RSAs), Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) studies, crash analyses, and the formulation of safety countermeasures aligned with Vision Zero and local safety objectives.
Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams to integrate active transportation and safety considerations into broader transportation planning, community development, and multimodal design goals.
Mentor junior team members in traffic engineering and design, fostering their technical development and promoting a collaborative work environment.
Prepare and deliver clear, data-driven technical reports and visualizations for clients and stakeholders.
Qualifications:
11-15+ years of progressive experience in traffic engineering, planning, or safety.
Professional Engineer (PE) license or American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification is required.
Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) and/or Road Safety Professional 1 (RSP1) certifications are a plus.
Demonstrated experience with state and local clients.
Deep understanding of planning processes, Complete Streets initiatives, and multi-jurisdictional, multi-discipline project delivery.
Exceptional communication and technical writing skills, with the ability to convey complex information to various audiences.
