The Safety Manager is responsible for leading, conducting, instructing, performing, and developing a health and safety program that assures control and prevention of incidents, injuries and hazards. The Safety Manager must identify and eliminate hazardous conditions or unsafe behaviors across all operations and jobs. The Safety Manager will review, evaluate, and audit safety activities and will assist the Terminal Manager by providing required safety training. The Safety Manager will participate in safety meetings and job briefings with supervisors and team members on site. The Safety Manager will ensure all required environmental, health, safety and security activities for the terminal are accomplished as required by regulatory or Watco policy requirements. The Safety Manager will conduct walkthrough inspections, audits, task evaluations, training, briefings and reporting of performance measures. The role focuses on identifying and integrating proper, safe work procedures and cultivating a safety?mocused attitude in a production environment without compromising team members safety. The position will perform efficiency testing, identify poor work procedures or safety behaviors, and develop remedial actions in coordination with the Terminal Manager and Safety Director. Hazardous Material Handling/Labeling/Shipping Hazard Communications and SDS FRA Hazmat General Awareness Training Respiratory Protection Forklift Safety Crane Safety, Hoist and Rigging Equipment Inspections Personal Protective Equipment and Clothing Fire Safety, Prevention and Protection Fall Protection and Elevated Work Ladder Safety Lockout/Tagout Safety Machine Guarding Safety Emergency Action and Response Site Security Hearing Conservation Program Electrical Safety, Grounding and Bonding Contractor and Visitor Safety Programs Maritime Safety Knowledge is a plus Job Requirements
An associate degree or bachelors degree in industrial safety, industrial hygiene or related discipline is preferred, or a minimum of 3 years of safety experience. Skilled in hazard and exposure identification, auditing and inspections; conducting safety training; and InfoRail Reporting Systems, OSHA 300 and internal record-keeping, and related governmental reporting requirements. Solid knowledge of OSHA, EPA, Federal, State and local regulatory compliance requirements. Able to effectively communicate with team members and maintain focus on goals and trend analysis to support safety improvement efforts. Ability to provide clear, effective written and oral communication to fellow team members and leadership. Must be able to interact with internal and external regulatory agencies, customers, and visitors on a professional basis. Ability to determine root causes using thorough investigation techniques and provide concise, accurate findings. Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.). Must be a team player and able to interact effectively with all team members and senior leadership. Demonstrated good work ethic and ability to meet schedules, appointments and timelines. Self-starter with good time management and flexibility to changing requests due to operational or managerial needs. Must possess a valid drivers license with a clear record. Ability to work in an outdoor environment and climb 20-foot ladders multiple times.
