Salary Range: $7,708 - $12,323 per month. Compensation is dependent on experience. Significant experience is required to reach the higher end of the salary range Position Location: State Capitol, Sacramento, CA
Founded in 2001, the Asian American & Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus (AAPILC) serves to represent and advocate for the interests of the AAPI community, including increasing AAPI representation and participation at all levels of government. The consultant is assigned to work for the AAPI Legislative Caucus Chair, if the Chair is an Assemblymember, or the Vice Chair, if the Chair is a Senator.
Basic Functions: Under the direction of the Chair or Vice Chair, and their Chiefs of Staff, the Consultant will serve as the principal staff for the AAPI Legislative Caucus. Basic functions include coordinating meetings and events, providing analyses and recommendations for legislative and budget priorities, providing timely information to the caucus members regarding issues that impact the AAPI community, and acting as a liaison between the AAPILC and the community.
Duties: Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Organizing and staffing AAPILC monthly meetings Organizing signature events such as Lunar New Year and AAPI Heritage
Month Drafting press releases, event advisories, and press statements

Drafting resolutions and talking points for the AAPILC Chair, Vice Chair or Members to speak on bills and at events
Coordinating and making recommendations for the AAPILC to develop legislative and budget priorities
Keeping AAPILC members updated on current events impacting the AAPI community
Acting as a liaison between the AAPILC and community members, including representing the AAPILC at events
Communicating and responding to inquiries from the community and legislative partners
Working with other diversity caucus consultants to coordinate resolution presentations and support diversity caucus events
Communicating and working with AAPILC member staff to AAPILC events and keep all member offices updated
Draft reports and letters Managing and updating the AAPILC website Managing the AAPILC's social media platforms
Knowledge/Skills:
Strong leadership, communication and writing skills Experience in event planning and execution Understanding of the AAPILC's history, role and function within the
Legislature Familiarity with the Legislative Process Developing communications plans and managing social media platforms Community outreach
Preferred Candidate: The ideal candidate has extensive knowledge and experience working with the AAPI community, the Legislature, the Governor, and other state and local elected officials.
