General Statement of Duties
Closing Date: This position closes on Friday, September 19, 2025.
Performs independent clerical duties in the Henrico Circuit Court Clerk's Office; does related work as required.
Essential Duties
Serves as a Deputy Clerk in the office's Criminal Division. Duties include but are not limited to:
Assisting judges during criminal hearings and bench/jury trials and preparing court orders to memorialize the Judge's ruling; preparing jail cards, arrest processes and other court/case related documents Setting future hearing/trial dates for cases Taking in evidence during court proceedings and organizing/managing the evidence for retention/destruction purposes Duties may also include:
Receiving/processing new cases and filings/pleadings Receipting/ preparing appeal bonds Providing assistance to customers through the criminal call center Processing bond forfeitures Processing/ managing attorney reimbursement vouchers Preparing/organizing and submitting records for cases on appeal to the Virginia Supreme Court and Virginia Court of Appeals Processing appointment of counsel requests Establishing receivable accounts and collecting and properly crediting payments for fines, costs and restitution Issuing /tracking service of process Preparing pre-trial dockets Opening and distributing daily mail Composing written correspondence in response to requests from public safety entities, attorneys, inmates and the general public Updating automated case management system with case dispositions for dissemination to public safety/law enforcement agencies, and performing a myriad of other duties and/or special projects as necessary and at the discretion of the Clerk of Circuit Court Demonstrated skills in:
Oral/written communication Multi-tasking in fast-paced environment Meeting tight deadlines Attention to detail Public relations/customer service Utilization of state-of-the-art technology and work proficiency
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with some work experience in the Court system or the legal field; Or graduation from high school and four (4) years of responsible clerical work experience, preferably in the Court system or the legal field; Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

The expected hiring range will be at the lower end of the listed pay scale.
Court, business or office related experience a plus.
A criminal history record check and fingerprinting is conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment, including a conditional offer of initial employment, or a conditional offer to promote, demote, or laterally transfer an employee.
