Date Available: 08/06/2025 General Description of the Role Working under the supervision of a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Educational Interpreters facilitate communication between students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (D/HH) and anyone with whom they communicate. They help adapt teaching techniques, modify curricular content, and maintain assistive technologies to provide the optimal educational experience for the student. Qualifications Required

Implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and accommodations Observe students and monitor goals and progress Provide direct instructional services and in-class support Facilitate student participation in the school environment Ensure student safety Facilitate communication between D/HH students and teachers, students, and other people in the school environment, accurately conveying the thought, intent, and spirit of the sender, (includes lectures, discussions, public address announcements, assemblies, dramatic performances, and instructional videos) Interpret verbally for the D/HH student (sign to voice, voice-over interpretation, or translation), and translates oral and written communication into manual communication, (sign to voice or voice-over interpretation) modifying language as needed Under the supervision of the Teacher of the D/HH, act as liaison for the D/HH student and consult regularly with teachers regarding coursework content, appropriate intervention, instructional techniques, and remediation strategies Advocate for the student (manage acoustic environment, promote awareness of the impact of deafness, recommend communication strategies as needed) Modify and adapt curricular content and activities to meet the language needs of the student (pre and post teaching, supplemental instruction, note taking services) Observe student progress on IEP goals and objectives and carry out progressive work assignments based on the student's functioning level Help teachers and classmates understand and accept the D/HH student, as well as the role of the Educational Interpreter Participate in IEP meetings when determined appropriate by the Teacher of the D/HH Demonstrate commitment to program philosophy, goals, and decisions, adhering to established program rules and procedures and providing input regarding program priorities or procedural changes when appropriate Help maintain working order of assistive technology (hearing aids, FM systems, TTYs, auditory trainers, closed captioning devices) Communicates job related problems and difficulties with Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Cooperates with program teacher to provide a healthy, functional working environment Maintains a positive attitude and act as an appropriate role model at all times Professionalism An exemplary staff member consistently demonstrates all of the following:
