Essential Functions:
Performing assigned tasks under the supervision and guidance of the principal and/or the classroom teachers.
Qualifications:
Education/Testing:
Qualified applicants must meet one of these criteria and provide documentation confirming:
Required: High School Diploma Preferred:
Completion of an Associate's Degree through an accredited school; or have a passing score on the Parapro Assessment acceptable in Georgia Valid certification through the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or pass the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA). Experience:
Proven experience interpreting using ASL. Major Responsibilities: Supports interpretation needs for hard of hearing or deaf students and teachers. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance. Assists teacher with programs of study: small group, large group, individualized and remedial/acceleration. Performs clerical duties (word processing, copying, filing, etc.). Assists in the supervision of students on the playground, in the cafeteria, in the hallways, in the bathrooms and other pertinent areas. Assists in the supervision of students on field trips and other off-campus sites as needed. Assists with instructional technology as needed. Assists in preparation and collection of testing materials and serves as test proctor. Assists with the supervision of students during emergency procedures and drills. Assists in preparing for parent conferences. Assists students with special needs. If assigned, assists with the basic needs of selected students (may include feeding, toileting, wiping noses, etc.). Maintain the confidentiality of information regarding students and the program.

Ability to work successfully with school personnel, parents, students and community members. Ability to be patient and flexible Good communication skills Demonstrates professionalism Proficient in the use of American Sign Language PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Frequent walking, sitting, and standing for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry instructional materials and equipment up to 25 pounds. Dexterity to write on a board, operate a computer, and use other classroom technology. Occasional bending, stooping, and reaching. Clear speech and hearing abilities for effective communication. Visual acuity to read printed and digital materials.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. The employee is frequently required to interact with the public and other staff. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being and work out-put of students.
