Atlassian is seeking a Principal Machine Learning Scientist to join our Central AI team located in Bellevue WA. The Central AI organization constructs the fundamental infrastructure, data pipeline, frameworks, models, and other capabilities to expedite AI feature development throughout the entire company. The Central AI org is part of the Atlassian Intelligence program. Its purpose is to accelerate AI innovation across all products and platforms, provide cohesive AI experiences, and set up an Atlassian AI infrastructure for the future. Central AI constructs underlying infrastructure and capacities to enable seamless AI integration across departments and to develop core shared AI experiences such as search, knowledge discovery, and conversation. Responsibilities
As a Principal Machine Learning Engineer, drive the development and implementation of cutting-edge machine learning algorithms, train sophisticated models, and collaborate with product, engineering, and analytics teams to embed AI functionalities into Atlassian products and services. Responsibilities include designing system and model architectures, conducting rigorous experimentation and model evaluations, and guiding emerging ML engineers. Ensure AI’s transformative potential is realized across offerings. Qualifications
On the first day, we expect you to have Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (preferably Computer Science or equivalent) 5+ years of related industry experience in data science Expertise in Python or Java with production-quality coding ability; familiarity with SQL, Spark, and cloud data environments (e.g., AWS, Databricks) Experience building and scaling ML models for business applications using large datasets Ability to communicate data science concepts to diverse audiences and craft a compelling narrative Focus on business practicality and the 80/20 rule; value of delivering usable output over perfection Agile development mindset with a preference for constant iteration Nice to have Experience in consumer/SaaS or enterprise/B2B spaces Experience developing deep learning models and LLM-related applications Aptitude for solving ambiguous problems and breaking them into manageable components Compensation and Benefits
Base pay ranges in the United States are zone-based. Zone A: $229,300–$305,700; Zone B: $206,300–$275,100; Zone C: $190,300–$253,700.
