Overview
Manufacturing Engineering Manager position at Rock West Composites. The role is based at the company headquarters in San Diego, CA, reporting to the SVP of Engineering.
Responsibilities
Lead the manufacturing engineering function and processes across the business unit.
Manage, delegate, and plan workload and deadlines; develop and track metrics to ensure on-time completion of requirements.
Oversee New Product Introduction activities, work instruction/work traveler packages, item masters, and change management for recurring orders; ensure department commitments meet internal and external requirements.
Provide manufacturing engineering support and guidance to Program Management, Operations, QA/QE, and other functions to facilitate production and ensure product integrity and delivery requirements.
Resolve complex engineering and operational problems using new techniques or concepts as needed.
Communicate developments to management and internal/external customers, addressing impact on profit, schedule, cost, and relationships.
Maintain knowledge of new technologies and develop recommendations to improve operations.
Perform employee development functions, coaching, performance evaluations, and succession planning within company guidelines.
Qualifications (Required Education and Experience)
Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Structural, or Materials Engineering, or 15 years of composite manufacturing experience. MBA or relevant master’s degree is a plus.
15+ years of experience leading Manufacturing Engineering teams, preferably in Tier 1 or 2 aerospace companies.
Basic knowledge of AS9100 and adherence to corporate Quality Management System.
Strong background in aerospace composite structures manufacturing including detail parts and assemblies.
Hands-on experience with composite part fabrication, assembly, and aerospace fabrication processes (composites, metal bonding, forming, machining).
Familiarity with Prime contractor specifications and product qualification processes (e.g., First Article Qualifications, Thermal Profiles).
Proficiency with CAD/CAM tools, preferably SolidWorks; strong GD&T, blueprint reading, and model interrogation skills.
Experience with both contact and non-contact inspection methods and data acquisition systems.
Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, NetSuite) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience completing bids, proposals, and supporting new business development.
Ability to set priorities, manage multiple programs, and adapt in fast-paced environments; highly organized with attention to detail.
Strong interpersonal, written, verbal, and analytical communication skills; demonstrated ability to lead teams and foster cross-functional collaboration.
