Position Summary:

The Bariatric Surgery Program Coordinator (BSPC) will provide clinical expertise for patients seeking comprehensive weight loss care. The Coordinator will assist in the development of the Program, manages the accreditation process and ensures continuous compliance with MBSAQIP requirements. The BSPC serves as the liaison between the facility and all surgeons performing bariatric surgery at Conway Medical Center. The BSPC will assess, plan, direct, implement, coordinate and evaluate the effectiveness of all clinical administrative processes related to the Bariatric Program in accordance with MBSAQIP standards. Responsibilities for the day-to-day operations of the Bariatric Program include but are not limited to: Assists in the development/growth of the Bariatric Program, Also coordinates education of staff in various aspects of bariatric surgery with focus on patient safety, and assist in developing and maintaining relevant policies and procedures (i.e) rapid communication and basic response. The BSPC will serve as a key communication link between providers, patients, family members, and the office staff, and will coordinate care for the Bariatric surgical patient from first point of interest through post-operative care and will ensure that there is continuity of care by conducting face to face meetings. The BSPC will track all patients in the work up process, including but not limited to consultations with multidisciplinary team members, facilitating lab work, and procedures necessary for insurance approval. The BSPC becomes well versed in the accreditation process and all other compliance requirements for the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), This will include scheduling and coordinating quarterly MBS Committee meetings to comply with MBSAQIP standards as well as work with Metabolic Bariatric Surgical Clinical Reviewer (MBSCR) to assure timely submission of outcomes and data, review outcome data with Medical Director, and coordinate the preparation for the MBSAQIP site visit for the Bariatric Program.

Qualifications:

Education: Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse program required. Experience:

Minimum of 2 yr. back & front medical practice office experience required. Experience with EMR system required, Cerner experience preferred. Previous experience in Bariatric Surgery programs and accreditation preferred. Licensure/Certification/Registration:

Current South Carolina (or compact state) licensure as RN (SCLLR) in good standing required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Special Skills:

Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with nursing colleagues, physicians, department heads, and member of executive leadership. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Explorer and PowerPoint required. Exemplary core customer service skills strongly required. Knowledge of elementary principles of management preferred. Strong organizational skills required. Strong verbal and written communication skills including public speaking required. Ability to explain technical information to a non-technical individual required. Ability to remain calm and professional in most situations required. Ability to consistently exercise independent judgement required.
