Nature of Work
Under general supervision, the Transportation DMV Specialist 1 performs full-performance level clerical work assisting customers, answering inquiries, and providing information pertaining to the services provided by the WV Division of Motor Vehicles. Work involves knowledge, interpretation, and the application of motor vehicle laws, policies, and procedures. Other duties as required.
Pay Grade 9 Typical Duties and Responsibilities • Answers in person, telephone and email inquiries from customers providing information regarding motor vehicle laws, policies, and procedures. • Explains forms, fees, taxes, and any other charges applicable. • Checks pending title work and renewals, explains rejections, and assists with any service issues, including lost work. • Compose and send emails to the DMV Regional Offices and other sections with the agency to facilitate customer interaction. • Operate the appointment scheduler for the DMV Regional Offices and Chatbot for wv.gov website • Maintain logs for informational purposes for reporting. • Enters data into the computer to access previous data and update new file information as appropriate • Mails forms per customer requests and/or inquiries, composing correspondence to explain documents. • Process credit card payments by telephone or through the web service • Process applications, forms, convictions, and other documents • May interact with law enforcement insurance companies, automobile dealerships, attorney, county offices, and other jurisdictions associated with the job assignment. • May operate a photo camera system, as applicable. Skills and Knowledge • Knowledge of state and federal guidelines, motor vehicle law, rules, and regulations • Ability to interpret rules and regulations • Excellent communication and presentation skills • Knowledge of basic computer skills • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public • Ability to comprehend and effectively carry out oral and/or written directions • Ability to learn and process multiple types of transactions in the DMV system • Ability to assist a high volume of customers/calls daily Minimum Requirements
REQUIRED
TRAINING/EDUCATION •
Graduation from standard high school or the equivalent
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE •
One year of full time or equivalent part time paid experience in bookkeeping, sales, cashiering or related public contact work. • Substitution: College credit from an accredited college or university, business school, or vocational training may be substituted through an established formula for the required experience.
