Role Summary Manufacturing Engineers are involved throughout the product lifecycle-beginning at the concept stage-by influencing design, assessing and selecting suppliers, identifying key process characteristics, developing manufacturing and assembly controls, analyzing process capability, and managing change. This role plays a critical part in ensuring product integrity during supplier transfer and supports cross-functional teams to assess and mitigate technical risk.
Responsibilities: Support manufacturing of complex machined, gear, and motor components within the supply base. Prepare and conduct part risk assessments with suppliers. Review supplier manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with engineering drawings and specifications. Coordinate across departments to communicate design intent to suppliers. Recommend processes, tooling, and inspection methods to suppliers. Evaluate supplier manufacturing capabilities and provide technical assistance to resolve production issues. Review manufacturing specifications and offer technical guidance. Analyze new product designs for manufacturing feasibility and provide data-driven feedback to design teams. Recommend product improvements to reduce risk and eliminate defect opportunities. Facilitate DFX / DFMA activities on new designs with suppliers and internal design teams. Review and validate PPAP submissions. Participate in and support supplier-led FMEA activities. Conduct and review gage R&Rs and Measurement System Analysis (MSA) activities with suppliers to ensure correlation and measurement reliability. Analyze and review process capability data. Actively participate in zero-defect initiatives using AS9145 principles. Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, or related field. Focus in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering is preferred. Minimum 7 years of experience in a manufacturing engineering environment. Experience in complex machined parts and gears is required. Technical expertise in areas such as metallurgy, processing, metrology, GD&T, and electrical motor assemblies. Proven experience with supplier improvement initiatives. Strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Preferred Qualifications:
Practical experience in manufacturing engineering within both internal and external (supply chain) settings. Strong data-driven decision-making and problem-solving abilities. Knowledge of core defect prevention tools: DFMA, PFMEA, Control Plan, MSA, Capability Analysis, Error Proofing, etc. Experience with new product introduction processes (APQP, PPAP). Familiarity with aerospace industry standards (AS13000, AS9102, AS9103, AS9145). Formal continuous improvement training (Lean Six Sigma Green/Black Belt) is desirable. High level of numeracy and understanding of statistical techniques. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate in cross-functional teams under tight deadlines.
