Location: Brown Elementary School ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Through personal effort and delegation of assignments to custodial staff, this position maintains safety, security, and cleanliness of assigned building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways and play areas in accordance with the South Portland School Department Custodial Cleaning Standards Manual. Organize custodial work requirements for the school and plans the materials, tools, labor, and skills necessary to do the work and schedule the work in conjunction with the principal to create an overall work plan for the school. The overall plan should be adjusted as needed to reflect changes in the schools needs and associated individual work plans will be updated accordingly. Monitors and approves time records and leave requests of all employees assigned to the school. Performs minor and preventive maintenance tasks to the building, installed equipment, custodial equipment, as needed and directed. Inputs work requests through the use of the Incident IQ maintenance program, for the assigned school and grounds for any work requiring Maintenance or contractor personnel and track these requests to ensure completion. Assists the Custodial staff in maintaining adequate inventory of required supplies, tools and equipment and requests replacements or additions as necessary. Ensures that all walkways, steps and entry areas are kept clear, safe, and passable using both snow shovels and snow-blowers as required. Treats areas with sand and/or ice melt as required. Performs tasks required for opening the building in the morning and/or closing the building in the evening, depending on work shift and assignment created. Such tasks include, but are not limited to, arming/disarming the intrusion alarm systems, opening/securing windows and doors, adjustments to climate control system, etc. Performs directed energy use reduction measures, such as de-energizing lighting and other electrical equipment in unused and unoccupied spaces. Moves furniture or equipment within the buildings as required for various activities and as needed to maintain the building. Performs grounds keeping activities, such as grass cutting/trimming, raking and leaf blowing, to maintain grounds in a safe and attractive condition, where such service is not performed by outside personnel. Maintains the proper display of the United States and Maine State flags. Maintains a neat and professional personal appearance and behavior during his/her work shift. Establishes and maintains positive professional relationships with other employees, with administrators, and with the public. Performs other duties and assumes such responsibilities as the Director of Buildings and Grounds may assign.
