Job Summary
The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) provides access to quality education in a regional setting for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (D/HH) students, grade six through twelve. We are currently recruiting for a Paraeducator to serve in our D/HH Total Communication Program.
This position will be responsible for providing some one-on-one instruction on various subjects to D/HH students, under the guidance and direction of a D/HH classroom teacher. Paraeducators in our program use sign language, finger spelling, and total communication skills in instruction and communication with D/HH students and may provide interpretation or translation services in non-academic classes and extracurricular activities.
OCDE's D/HH Program is located within the Irvine Unified School District at Venado Middle School and University High School. This position works within the division of Special Education and may assist students with autism, medical, emotional/behavioral challenges, or other special needs.
Paraeducators for the D/HH Total Communication Program work 6.25 hours per day, Monday through Friday, with program closures during school holidays and summer months.

Before receiving authorization to work in this position, the individual selected will be required to provide a current negative TB authorization and receive clearance from a confidential background investigation and record check through the DOJ, and FBI as needed. The tests are arranged and paid for by OCDE.
The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires employers to verify the employability of all new employees. Before the Department will finalize an offer of employment, the candidate selected will be required to show original documents which establish both the individual's identity and employment authorization. The candidate must also sign a statement under penalty of perjury regarding his/her employability.
