As a small, growing team, we are committed to continuous improvement and are excited to expand our legacy of producing high-quality lefse and other products. We are looking for a skilled Short-Order Cook to join our team.
Hours: Our cafe is open 7 AM - 2 PM Monday - Friday and Saturdays 7 AM - 12 PM. We are looking for folks willing to work 6:30 AM - 2:30 PM M-F and 6:30 AM - 12:30 PM on Saturday. Part-time and full-time hours are available.
Position Overview: As a Short-Order Cook, you will prepare delicious meals according to our café menu that will delight our customers with their taste and timely delivery. This is an opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment and continue developing valuable experience in the culinary industry. An excellent cook must be able to follow instructions in cooking and delivering well-prepared meals. They must be deft when moving around the kitchen and able to multi-task. Experience with using various ingredients and cooking techniques is important. The goal is to help preserve and enhance our reputation so we can expand our clientele.
Duties and Responsibilities
Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment Check the quality and freshness of ingredients Prepare ingredients for use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.) Operate kitchen equipment such as broilers, ovens, grills, and fryers Handle and store ingredients and food Monitor kitchen inventory levels and place orders when there are shortages Follow recipes, including measuring, weighing, and mixing ingredients Accommodate guests' special requests Present, garnish, and arrange final dishes before they are served Occasionally serve food Maintain a clean and safe work area, including handling utensils, equipment and dishes Maintain food safety and sanitation standards, ensuring all food and other items are stored properly Execute opening and closing procedures Requirements
Proven experience as a short-order cook Experience in using cutting tools, cookware, and bakeware Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling, etc.) Ability to follow all sanitation procedures Ability to work in a team Excellent communication skills Ability to stand or walk for the majority of each shift High school diploma or equivalent Skills and Qualifications
Knowledge of safety procedures, including safe temperatures at which ingredients must be kept and to which food must be prepared to avoid foodborne illness Ability to work as part of a team, collaborating on complex dishes/orders Interpersonal skills to interact with a variety of people, such as waitstaff, dishwashers, management, and sometimes customers Calm demeanor to work in a high-stress, fast-paced environment Accountability for the dishes they prepare measuring up to the expectations of management and customers alike Comprehension and organization to follow direct orders and recipes and to correctly prepare dishes to the standards of the restaurant Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to handle tools, such as knife techniques for chopping, slicing, cutting, and dicing Ability to stand in one place for hours at a time, handle extreme heat, and work shifts
