10-month
full-time position.
JOB SUMMARY: This employee will support students with identified hearing needs. Fluency in American Sign Language is preferred.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Experience in working with school age deaf/hard of hearing (D/HH) students placed in the general education setting Experience utilizing a variety of communication approaches, including auditory verbal therapy, troubleshooting hearing assistive technology, and interpreting audiological information Knowledge of American Sign Language - preferred Eligible for State of Delaware Certification Successful completion of the State of Delaware Pre-Professional Skills test (only for those candidates not already certificated in Delaware and may be met after position has been offered) ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: *This is representative of the functions of this position, but is not all-inclusive. To plan, implement and monitor the Due Process for each student that will enable him/her to achieve IEP goals and objectives as written by the multi-disciplinary team working with the student.
Have a comprehensive understanding of educational best practice and the continuum of options for D/HH children Assist district staff in supporting students' daily use of hearing assistive technology, including hearing aids, cochlear implants, BAHA devices, Roger and FM systems, as appropriate; troubleshoot technology in conjunction with Statewide Programs' Educational Audiologist, as needed. Provide technical assistance to District staff in the areas of evaluation, instruction and curriculum, emphasizing problem solving, reasoning skill development, self-advocacy skill development Conduct comprehensive initial assessments and triennial reassessments for D/HH students ages 5 to 21, including functional listening evaluations and audiological review, as appropriate. Lead communication plan discussions during IEP meetings. Develop lesson plans and instructional materials to provide individualized and/or small group instruction, when needed and in collaboration with appropriate staff Evaluate students' academic and social growth, maintain accurate, timely records and prepare progress reports Collect data to support district in programming development Model instruction to students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and/or district policy Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by District and Statewide Programs, as well as self-selected professional growth activities Acquire knowledge of the vision and goals of the District and schools. Work to support and achieve those goals. Collaborate with district staff, as well as other involved agencies/therapists, and attend appropriate meetings as directed Facilitate positive interactions between students and staff, students and peers and students and community members. Have a working knowledge of and implement the Delaware State Standards and District graduation requirements. Position is itinerant, with frequent daily travel required - dependable transportation is required. Other duties as assigned
