JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Student Worker - Desk Worker (DW) is a student staff member in the Office of Housing and Residential Life (HRL) who plays a critical role in supporting the residential community. The student worker provides high-quality customer service at the Phase 2 front desk and contribute to a welcoming, informed, and responsive living environment. This role supports students in navigating academic, emotional, and social transitions while also assisting with daily housing operations and departmental initiatives. The student worker - Desk Workers live off campus and are assigned regular desk shifts and departmental projects.

JOB DESCRIPTION

General Responsibilities:

Student Support & Safety

Act as a mandatory reporter for all student incidents and emergency situations. Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and composure at all times. Immediately report any dangerous or life-threatening behavior to University Police and HRL leadership. Submit incident reports for policy violations or community standard concerns. Operations & Administration

Execute all assigned tasks, documentation, phone calls, and follow-up duties from HRL staff. Create a welcoming and service-oriented atmosphere at the Phase 2 front desk. Receive, log, and distribute mail and packages accurately. Serve as a first point of contact for residents, families, and university staff. Assist students with maintenance requests or submit them on their behalf as needed. Provide accurate information about campus and community resources. Administrative Responsibilities Include:

Making operational calls for contract reminders, roommate selection deadlines, roster verification, and ID photo submissions. Supporting housing operations within StarRez (e.g., room swaps, roommate matching assistance, contract verification, break stay rosters). Drafting and sending official communications and reminders to residents. Preparing key packets and materials for move-in and other major transitions. Team Collaboration & Engagement

Participate in departmental programming such as staff selection, training, emergency drills, and outreach efforts. Serve as a positive and reliable team member, contributing to shared goals and HRL values. Collaborate with other Housing and Residential Life staff and university partners. Represent HRL in partnership with the Office of Admissions, educating prospective students and families about on-campus living. Perform additional responsibilities as directed by professional HRL staff. Other Duties as Assigned MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be a full-time undergraduate student enrolled at Florida Polytechnic University. Must maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA and 2.25 semester GPA. Successfully completed 9 or more credits in the most recent fall or spring semester with a GPA of 2.0 or better. Must be in good disciplinary standing with the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities. Must attend all team meetings, scheduled shifts, and U Lead program sessions. Outside employment must be approved by the Housing Operations Coordinator or other HRL professional staff. Must pass a University background check. Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and a genuine commitment to enhancing the student residential experience. REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR OTHER SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS OF LAW:

This position requires a criminal background check. This position is subject to federal and state privacy regulations.

LOCATION: Florida Polytechnic University Main Campus.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: A student worker is limited to a maximum of 20 work hours per week while classes are in session.

EXPECTED STARTING SALARY: $13.25 hourly.
