JOB SUMMARY:

The Hybrid Cloud Engineer is a technical professional responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining hybrid cloud infrastructure that seamlessly integrates on-premises and cloud-based systems. This role focuses on ensuring optimal performance, security, and cost-effectiveness across both Azure cloud environments and traditional on-premises server infrastructure.

This position plays a critical role in the university's digital transformation by managing the technical aspects of cloud migration, maintaining existing on-premises systems, and establishing robust hybrid connectivity solutions. The Hybrid Cloud Engineer will work closely with DevOps, networking, and security teams to ensure seamless integration between cloud and on-premises environments while maintaining high availability and performance standards.

Reporting to the Lead Server Engineer, this role requires hands-on technical expertise in both traditional server management and modern cloud technologies, with a focus on automation, monitoring, and infrastructure optimization.

DUTIES AND TASKS: Design and implement hybrid cloud architectures that optimize workload placement between on-premise and Azure cloud environments Manage and maintain on-premise server infrastructure, including Windows and Linux servers, virtualization platforms, and storage systems Configure and optimize Azure cloud services, including Virtual Machines, App Services, Azure SQL, and networking components Establish and maintain secure connectivity between on-premise and cloud environments using VPN, ExpressRoute, and hybrid networking solutions Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, ARM templates, or Bicep for consistent deployment across environments Monitor system performance and availability across hybrid environments, implementing proactive maintenance and optimization strategies Automate routine operational tasks using PowerShell, Python, or other scripting languages to improve efficiency Collaborate with security teams to implement and maintain security controls, compliance requirements, and access management across hybrid environments Participate in cloud migration projects, assessing workloads and determining optimal placement strategies Manage backup and disaster recovery solutions for both on-premise and cloud-based systems Troubleshoot complex technical issues spanning on-premise and cloud infrastructure Maintain documentation for system configurations, procedures, and architectural decisions Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation to ensure continuous system availability Work with vendors and support teams to resolve infrastructure issues and implement solutions Assist in capacity planning and cost optimization efforts across hybrid environments Support compliance requirements including FERPA, HIPAA, and other regulatory standards Contribute to the development of best practices and standards for hybrid cloud operations REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge:

Strong technical knowledge of on-premise server infrastructure, including Windows Server, Linux, VMware, and Hyper-V Solid understanding of Azure cloud services, including compute, storage, networking, and platform services Experience with hybrid cloud networking, including VPN, ExpressRoute, and Azure networking components Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, ARM templates, or Bicep Understanding of automation and scripting languages including PowerShell, Python, or Bash Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools for hybrid environments Knowledge of backup and disaster recovery solutions for both on-premise and cloud systems Skills:

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to troubleshoot complex hybrid infrastructure issues Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously Effective communication skills to collaborate with technical teams and explain technical concepts to stakeholders Project management skills to plan and execute infrastructure improvements and migrations Attention to detail in documentation and system configuration management Ability to learn new technologies quickly and adapt to changing requirements Abilities:

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and requirements Capacity to participate in on-call rotations and respond to critical system issues Skill in balancing competing demands while maintaining system stability and performance Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with evolving cloud and infrastructure technologies Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams while taking ownership of technical deliverables EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related technical field Preferred:

Relevant industry certifications such as Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Associate, VMware VCP, or CompTIA Server+ Experience:

3-7 years of experience in server administration, cloud infrastructure, or hybrid environment management Technical Experience:

Hands-on experience with both on-premise server environments and public cloud platforms (preferably Azure) Demonstrated experience with automation, scripting, and infrastructure management tools Experience in higher education or complex organizational environments preferred Strong track record of successful infrastructure projects and system implementations Why Work at Saint Leo?
