HW Media
HousingWire is seeking a forward-thinking Editor, Strategic Content (AI) to shape the future of AI-assisted journalism and data-driven content. This is a hybrid editorial-technical role that sits at the intersection of storytelling, automation, and product innovation. The right candidate will play a critical role in building AI-first content experiences, collaborating with engineering and data teams to bring proprietary tools (like Elvex.com and Google's TimesFM) to life for our audience.
You don't need to be a data scientist - but you do need strong editorial instincts, comfort working with structured data, and a curious, systems-thinking mindset. You'll help shape how AI-powered content can deliver clarity, speed, and trustworthy information to housing professionals.
Why This Role Matters
HousingWire is building a next-generation content and editorial team where human judgment and AI output work hand in hand. You'll be a key part of that evolution - not just reporting on change in the housing industry, but actively shaping the tools and experiences that define the future of housing media.
What You'll Do
Scale local housing market reporting with AI: You'll work with our internal AI platform (Elvex.com) and national database of housing market trends (HousingWire Data) to design assistant workflows, structured responses, and editorial templates that scale our reporting and insights. Our goal is to publish 80 local housing articles a month from this dataset. Collaborate cross-functionally: Partner with editorial, engineering, and product teams to launch tools and reports powered by AI and structured data (e.g., using Google's TimesFM to forecast rates or pricing trends). Validate and shape data-driven narratives: Serve as the editorial lead on projects that require statistical forecasting, regression analysis, or structured financial data - gut-checking models and shaping output for end users. Support editorial automation: Co-develop assistant-led writing workflows for editors and reporters. These could include AI summaries, templated reporting, or hybrid human+AI explainers. Serve readers who ask questions, not just search: Develop content and assistants that respond to the kinds of questions housing executives actually ask - helping us better understand and serve decision-makers using tools like Profound.com. Experiment and document: Run lightweight experiments using generative AI tools to enhance or create content formats. You'll document best practices and share learnings with both editorial and technology teams. What You Bring
3-6 years of editorial or content creation experience, ideally with exposure to real estate, fintech, or data-driven reporting Familiarity with LLM concepts (prompt engineering, embeddings, tokens) Strong comfort with structured data (Excel, CSVs, Google Sheets, Airtable, etc.) and AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) Demonstrated experience creating or editing content with AI tools, even if informally Strong editorial instincts: you know what "good" looks like and can explain why Clear communicator with the ability to translate between technical and editorial teams Curious mindset: comfortable working in ambiguity and iterating quickly Nice to Have (Not Required)
Experience working with or adjacent to product, engineering, or data science teams Background in journalism, research, or financial publishing Compensation and Benefits:
Salary range: $90,000- $110,000. Based on experience 401(k) with employer match Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, and ancillary insurance options Unlimited PTO + Paid Parental Leave Hybrid work model
