Description:
Constructs and repairs structures and surfaces using bricks, concrete blocks, and natural or man-made stones. This role involves working with materials to build walls, floors, arches, pavements, partitions, sewers, and other structures. Brick Masons ensure accuracy, structural integrity, and finish quality while working with both hand and power tools. Must be willing to become signatory to the Brick Masons Union if not already a member.
Typical Duties:
Lay bricks, concrete blocks, stone, and other materials to construct or repair walls, partitions, arches, sewers, and similar structures. Use trowels, levels, plumb bobs, hammers, chisels, and other hand tools to construct and finish structures. Measure, cut, and shape bricks or blocks to fit required dimensions. Mix mortar or grout and spread it with a trowel. Clean and prepare surfaces for bricklaying by removing debris and leveling surfaces. Build scaffolding or temporary structures to provide safe working conditions. May use power grinders or hammer and chisel to remove rough spots or repair defective areas. Follow safety procedures, which may include wearing respirators, eye protection, and other personal protective equipment.
