Job Description
The Bus Aide works under supervision to ensure safe and comfortable transportation of students. If transporting children with special needs, the Bus Aide is responsible for securing students appropriately for transport to and from school.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Must have a high School Diploma or GED Must have or be able to obtain an IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card, through Arizona Department of Public Safety Must have or be able to obtain CPR Certification Knowledge of student school bus passenger safety regulations Must be able to assess concerns and complaints of students and report them to the Bus Driver when appropriate Ability to use 2-way radio for communication Must be able to operate all doors, windows and lifts on various school buses You must be able to properly use car seats, seat belts, safety restraints and harnesses and must be able to move a wheelchair into the bus and secure properly Ability to speak clearly and effectively to students, parents and District employees Ability to manage groups of children Must have reliable transportation Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assists Bus Driver with all aspects of student boarding and safety. Assists students with seat belts, harnesses and/or other safety restraints. Moves wheelchair students on to bus and locks wheelchair into place. Assists disabled students with boarding and disembarking. Ensure students' safety. Keeps students seated and handles student problems. Assists Bus Driver with bus evacuation drills and in emergency situations. May be required to use 2-way radio under the direction of the Bus Driver. Performs other duties as assigned.

The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands and fingers; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to sit; climb or balance; and bend, stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee will be required to move and control an adult-sized wheelchair. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally team lift and/or move a student with disabilities. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions and extreme cold; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
