Job Summary:
The Controller will be responsible for hands-on oversight of finance, accounting, and reporting activities. Collaborating with leadership and other directors, this position will assist in guiding and implementing financial and programmatic strategies. There is heavy emphasis on reporting, requiring this role to focus closely on the finance function and programmatic strategies. We recognize that talented professionals may bring value from outside our immediate region. Essential Job Functions: Financial Management and Oversight Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements. Design and maintain accounting systems to produce Timely, accurate, and relevant financial data for decision-making and external reporting. Manage financial operations, including cash flow, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll. Assist the CFAO in establishing and ensuring compliance with accounting policies and procedures related to revenues, cash flow, expenses, accounts payable, financial reporting, and payroll, as well as related operational procedures Reporting and Analysis Support the CFAO in the preparation of accurate and timely financial reports, including annual Uniform Financial Reports (UFR) and tax filings. Conduct financial analysis to support strategic and operational decisions. Develop and present pro forma budgets and projections for programmatic and financial planning. Lead regular financial and productivity reviews with program leadership to align financial metrics with programmatic outcomes. Compliance and Audits Assist in coordinating annual independent audits and other compliance audits, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local laws. Ensure compliance with FASB standards and funding agency requirements. Grants and Budget Managem
ent Oversee financial, project/program, and grant accounting, ensuring alignment of expenditures with grant budgets. Collaborate with program staff to prepare and monitor budgets for proposals, service contracts, and funding amendments. Perform financial analysis and work collaboratively with billing office on billing needs, develop pro-forma budgets, and create projections to aid in programmatic and financial decision making Leadership and Collaboration Support the CFAO in engaging the board's audit and finance committees on financial and operational trends. Provide training and guidance to finance and accounting staff to ensure professional development and operational excellence. Represent the organization in financial matters with external stakeholders, including financial institutions, auditors, and public officials. Investment and Asset Management Oversee the performance of invested assets, ensuring compliance with policies and guidelines. Continuous Improvement Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy within financial operations. Participate and seek out relevant training that supports professional development in this role. Qualifications, Experience and Education: Education Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required; MBA or CPA preferred. Experience Minimum of 5 years of experience in data architecture, data analytics, or related roles and equivalent experience. Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, preferably in a non-profit healthcare setting. Demonstrated experience in financial management roles, including strategy development and implementation. Strong knowledge of non-profit accounting, including Massachusetts state contracting and UFR preparation. Required Knowledge & Skills Proficiency with financial management sotware and EHR billing systems. Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Proven ability to lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Abilities Advanced knowledge of Excel and other data analysis tools. Ability to interact effectively with a diverse population and work collaboratively within the organization. Ability to manage complex projects, prioritize, delegate, and meet deadlines. Ability to represent the organization professionally in community and stakeholder interactions.
