Overview

First Church Early Learning Center was established in 1956 and we are a NAEYC accredited program. FCELC is looking for a positive, responsible, and adaptable individual to join our family. As a Teacher at First Church Early Learning Center, this person would be expected to have effective classroom management, plan and implement an emergent curriculum, maintain Office of Early Childhood and NAEYC standards and communicate daily with parents.

Duties

• Coordinate and implement educational curriculum by developing classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practices and early learning standards.
• Lead by example; encourage teaching team success through modeling and coaching.
• Plan individual and group age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage social, cognitive and emotional growth.
• Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions, progress reports, and parent-teacher conferences.
• Ensure all center policies and state regulations are met.
• Ensure a healthy classroom environment, including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children.
• Supervise teacher assistants and classroom volunteers to ensure they are following planned activities, hygiene and safety standards.
• Maintain accurate records, forms and files.
• Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.

Requirements

• Associate degree in early childhood education or related field of study with a minimum of 30 credits in ECE
• Minimum of 2 years of professional childcare experience
• Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills
• High energy and the ability to work well with others and foster a team environment
• A strong understanding of child development
• Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification (will provide if not already certified)
• Must clear full background check and health screening

About Us

First Church Early Learning Center was established in 1956 and is NAEYC accredited. FCELC is comprised of 2 full-day classrooms and a half-day classroom. Full-day classrooms run 12 months a year and part-day run during the school year only. We are looking for a positive, responsible, and adaptable individual to join our family. As a Lead Teacher at FCELC, you are expected to have effective classroom management, plan and implement an emergent curriculum, maintain Office of Early Childhood and NAEYC standards and communicate daily with parents (as well as 3 conferences per year or as needed).

Hours for this position may vary between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday. Hours are based on enrollment and school needs. Preferred candidates have 3-5 years of experience as a Lead Teacher in a program serving children aged 3-5 in an NAEYC accredited/OEC licensed environment and are knowledgeable about The Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards (ELDS).
