Overview
The
Chan Zuckerberg Biohub San Francisco
( CZ Biohub SF ) is an independent nonprofit research institute that connects Stanford, UC Berkeley, and UC San Francisco to drive collaborative technology and discovery. CZ Biohub SF supports engineers, data scientists, and biomedical researchers to investigate the mechanisms underlying disease and develop new diagnostics and therapies. Our values include scholarly excellence, disruptive innovation, hands-on engineering, partnership, collaboration, open communication and respect, inclusiveness, and opportunity for all. We pursue large scientific challenges that cannot be pursued in conventional environments We enable individual investigators to pursue their riskiest and most innovative ideas The technologies developed at CZ Biohub San Francisco facilitate research by scientists and clinicians at our home institutions and beyond Diversity of thought and perspective are central to CZ Biohub Network. We are committed to cultivating an organization where all colleagues feel inspired and know their work makes an important contribution. The Opportunity
The
Arias Group
at the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub is seeking a curious, energetic, passionate, and talented
Research Associate
to join us. We are exploring how viruses hijack the protein synthesis machinery, with the goal of identifying factors required for viral replication that are dispensable for normal cell function and could be targeted for antiviral strategies. Our primary research will evaluate the antiviral target potential of known factors and establish methods to identify new candidates, including CRISPR-based screens and Ribosome Profiling. This role is based in San Francisco initially, with a planned transition to Redwood City in two years. You will
Under the mentorship and supervision of senior researchers, plan and carry out experiments to understand host and virus dynamics during infection Create and maintain a library of cell lines as needed for various studies Learn and utilize cutting-edge techniques including microscopy, flow cytometry, mass spectrometry, CRISPR, drug screens, and high-throughput sequencing Collaborate with personnel from different research platforms (proteomics, genomics, imaging, cell biology, data science) Troubleshoot protocols, maintain detailed records, analyze results, and contribute ideas to research projects You have
Essential
Bachelor's degree in a life science or related field with coursework in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, and microbiology/virology Minimum of 1 year of wet laboratory experience (DNA and RNA isolation, PCR, cloning/construct design) Experience working with viruses Hands-on tissue culture experience Familiarity with gene manipulation and expression analysis methods (gene overexpression and stable expression, RNAi, CRISPR, qPCR, sequencing) Familiarity with protein tagging, expression and purification processes Experience in data collection, analysis, and interpretation Attention to detail and strong organizational skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to multi-task and work independently and collaboratively across platforms Nice to have
Master’s degree in life sciences or related field 3 years of molecular lab experience (qPCR, protein purification, tissue culture, cytometry, microscopy) Previous research, job, or internship experience in an academic or industry setting involving tissue culture Experience with proteomics and transcriptomics Experience with drug screening Compensation
The San Francisco base pay range for this role is Research Associate I: $66,000 – $91,000 and Research Associate II: $76,000 – $105,000. New hires are typically placed in the lower portion of the range with potential growth over time. Actual placement is based on job-related skills and experience as evaluated during the interview process. What We Provide
