Overview
The US Power Analyst role sits within our Research and Analytics team; responsible for developing and maintaining a fundamental outlook for global gas, power and LNG markets, communicated to key stakeholders across the company. The US Power Analyst will be responsible for analysing market fundamentals for key US power markets, to help inform short-term views to support the Trading desk, as well as mid to long-term outlooks to support Business Development activity in the physical power space. The ideal candidate will have solid quantitative analytical skills, a strong understanding of US electricity markets as well as the fundamentals of grid and transmission operations and constraints in different ISOs. This role is open to candidates looking to work in either our Houston, Texas, or Stamford, Connecticut offices. Responsibilities
Develop and maintain models to develop a fundamental view for key US power markets, including supply and demand, capacity and generation outlooks, fuel prices, transmission constraints and sensitivity to weather variables, across different time frames Develop power forecasting models using quantitative and qualitative techniques and monitor market drivers. This includes statistical techniques, programming and machine learning techniques when applicable Automate data collection processes and be able to write queries for databases Work with large datasets using python and SQL to derive analytical outputs Build reports/dashboards/tools for data visualisation using platforms such as Tableau Stay abreast of market and regulatory developments across US power markets: track ISO tariff changes, FERC orders, and state policy shifts Work closely with trading and business development teams to provide fundamental analysis to support commercial activity Be able to communicate your findings effectively to internal stakeholders, in both verbal and written format Contribute towards investment memos, pitch decks, and market primers for internal approvals and investor presentations Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, data science, computer science, mathematics or any other quantitative field Proficiency in SQL and python, and experience with Tableau or equivalent tools Familiar with Git, Azure DevOps, Snowflake Strong analytical skills and experience with statistical analysis, machine learning and data visualization techniques Experience with time-series analysis and forecasting 3-5 years experience analysing US power markets, with familiarity of ISO/RTO markets (e.g., PJM, ERCOT, MISO), power derivatives, as well as knowledge of FERC regulations and emissions markets Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple offices and with diverse stakeholders
