The Position The Talent Acquisition Specialist is part of the Human Resources team in the Office of the Presiding Bishop. This full-time, regular, hybrid (Chicago-based), exempt position manages and improves full-cycle recruitment processes, partners with leaders to attract, assess, and hire diverse and mission-driven talent, and contributes to employer branding, process improvement, and a positive candidate experience aligned with the ELCA’s values. This position requires regular time in the Lutheran Center office in Chicago and may require occasional travel.
Responsibilities
Manage full-cycle recruitment for assigned positions, including job postings, resume screening, candidate interviews, selection, and offers.
Partner with hiring managers to understand workforce needs, create recruitment strategies, and support equitable hiring practices.
Develop and maintain relationships with candidates to provide an excellent candidate experience.
Ensure recruiting practices align with the ELCA’s values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Utilize applicant tracking systems (ATS) and HRIS tools to track, manage, and report candidate activity and recruitment metrics.
Build and maintain talent pipelines through proactive sourcing, networking, and outreach efforts.
Contribute to employer branding efforts, including recruitment communications and outreach events.
Collaborate with HR colleagues to support onboarding and orientation of new employees.
Stay current on recruitment trends, best practices, and compliance requirements.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
2+ years of recruitment or talent acquisition experience. Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration or related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience preferred.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels.
Ability to create and implement sourcing strategies for recruitment for a variety of roles.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Proven discretion and ability to handle confidential information.
Previous experience recruiting in a nonprofit, faith-based, or mission-driven organization helpful.
Knowledge of employment law and best practices in equitable hiring.
Proficiency with applicant tracking systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
Appreciation for the mission, vision, and values of the ELCA.

Physical While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone. This position requires sitting for long periods. The employee may occasionally need to lift boxes or materials up to 15 pounds. Travel Position requires minimal travel for recruitment events and professional development events.
