Security Specialist - Crisis Intervention Support

.6 FTE Evenings (48 hours every two week pay period) Under the direction of the Security leadership team and guidance of PBMU nursing leadership, the Security Specialist is the primary responder for all safety concerns in the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit (PBMU), both individually and as part of an interdisciplinary team. Responsibilities

Interact with patients experiencing behavioral or mental health crisis to decrease emotional, physical and mental stress levels using verbal and non-verbal de-escalation techniques Utilize Crisis Prevention Institute physical techniques to bring patients exhibiting aggressive behavior under control for further therapeutic clinical intervention when necessary Provide safety and security to patients, healthcare workers, and the unit by responding to situations to de-escalate crisis situations; enforce rules and regulations to ensure safety of personnel, patients, visitors and property Protect staff, patients, and property by intervening with physical intervention if a patient begins to act out or present danger Contribute to the security department’s efforts to deter, detect, prevent, respond to, and document concerns or incidents that risk safety and well-being by using appropriate protocols, emergency response procedures, and non-violent crisis intervention methods Respond to, support, mitigate, de-escalate, and document all security incidents or service requests on the unit Identify, document, communicate, mitigate and de-escalate safety and risk issues that may impact PBMU’s ability to provide environmental safety and care Respond to situations including but not limited to code responses, safety escorts, belongings and room searches, fire emergencies, hazardous spills, disaster response, medical emergencies, safety support, missing child, active shooter, bomb threats, individuals under distress or escalated, and unauthorized persons on Seattle Children’s property or buildings Required Education/Experience

Required Education/Experience:

Associate's degree in Criminal Justice or related field with a minimum of one (1) year of related experience in Security Services, Public Safety, Law Enforcement or related field; or a minimum of three (3) years of aforementioned experience may offset the education. Required Credentials

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 90 days of hire CPI Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) Certification within 90 days of hire (Annual Requirement) Completion of NCI Autism Training within 12 months of hire Completion of Seattle Children's Safe Firearms Training within 12 months of hire Completion of Seattle Children's Security ED Screening Process within 12 months of hire Completion of Seattle Children's Patient Watch Training modules within 12 months of hire Safety Cares Certification within 90 days of hire if required for location (Annual Requirement) Completion of Car Seat Safety Training within 12 months of hire if required for position/role Score of 80% or above on Seattle Children's Security Competency Exam in assigned area of the Security Department within 12 months Preferred

Prefer prior Security Service or related experience to be in a behavioral health/hospital environment. Valid Washington State Driver's License with a driving record acceptable to Risk Management. Completion of Wheelchair Vehicle Training. International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Basic Certification. Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) Certification Compensation

$25.85 - $38.78 per hour Salary Information

This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided. Disclaimer for Out of State Applicants
