Our client is a rapidly growing insurance infrastructure software company building specialized platforms that power high-volume, regulated transactions.

As a Senior or Staff Back-End Engineer, you'll design, build, and operate core services that process critical business transactions with precision and audit-level accuracy. You'll collaborate with product, accounting, and risk stakeholders to translate complex requirements into resilient, low-latency systems, while owning the full engineering lifecycle from design to deployment and monitoring.

This is a hands-on, deeply technical role for an engineer who thrives on autonomy, is comfortable with distributed systems, and has a track record of building reliable, production-grade services in regulated environments.

• Architect and maintain event-driven, double-entry accounting services to record transactions (charges, refunds, payouts, fees) with high accuracy and observability.

• Build and operate distributed payment systems leveraging AWS Lambda, ECS, DynamoDB, and related cloud-native tools.
• Ensure high system reliability through robust testing, idempotent design, and infrastructure-as-code practices.

• Translate regulatory, tax, and accounting rules into maintainable software abstractions.

• Collaborate with cross-functional partners to deliver features that are both technically sound and compliant.

• Mentor peers, influence best practices, and contribute to a culture of ownership, transparency, and technical excellence.

• 5-10+ years of professional experience in back-end focused engineering roles.

• Proven experience designing and shipping production-grade payment or ledger systems.

• Expertise in Python (Go experience a plus) and AWS infrastructure.
  

• Deep understanding of distributed systems and data pipelines.

• Strong tenure in prior roles (3+ years in each of your last few positions preferred).
• Experience integrating with third-party payment platforms (Stripe experience a plus).

• History of zero-to-one project delivery in fintech or other regulated industries.

• Willingness to work onsite in NYC 5 days/week.

• Experience with large-scale integrations
• Background in high-growth startups or regulated industries.
• Contributions to open-source projects in distributed systems or infrastructure.
