Motion is hiring: Principal Software Engineer in San Francisco
Motion, San Francisco, CA, US, 94199
Overview
Join Motion as a Principal Software Engineer. Motion is building the first end-to-end agentic work suite for everyday businesses, with AI agents embedded natively in the platform that can autonomously execute work across project management, documents, sheets, calendars, meetings, knowledge, and communication.
About Motion
Motion was built from the ground up with AI agents at the core. Our platform already powers project management, documents, sheets, calendars, meetings, knowledge, and communication — and we’re layering in AI Employees that can autonomously execute work across all of it. Our agents are embedded in the platform; they actually complete work with full access to data, context, and workflows. In just three months, AI Employees have grown from $0 to eight-figure ARR, and we’re only getting started.
The Role
Motion is hiring an experienced software engineer who can make key technical decisions and implement large software projects to help Motion scale by two orders of magnitude. The role may be frontend, backend, or full-stack, whichever suits your background. You will work on Motion’s highest impact projects and have ownership over major parts of the product code.
You will be a successful engineer at Motion if:
You are ambitious and always looking for ways to improve. This role will give you significant responsibility and high standards; you should seek growth and be prepared to work hard and deliver your best work with coaching and feedback.
You can take ownership of projects and lead them to completion while handling ambiguity and balancing speed and quality.
You are a fast learner and can quickly familiarize yourself with a complex product and code base. You are comfortable tackling any part of the stack and learning new technologies; startup work may involve tech debt.
You have a strong sense of impact and focus on solving the biggest customer problems, not just flashy technical challenges.
You collaborate effectively with other engineers and thrive in an environment where the best ideas win. The team values high talent density and robust debate.
Tech Stack
We prefer candidates familiar with the JavaScript ecosystem and can hit the ground running. Our tech stack includes TypeScript, Node.js, React, React Query, Nest.js, Postgres, and Temporal.
