Overview
Description Senior Substation Engineer with Asplundh Engineering Services (AES) will maintain a range of responsibilities involving Substations, including protection and control and physical design. The candidate will assist in completing assignments independently, as well as working closely with other engineering and design team members to fulfill different roles across multiple projects. Key Responsibilities
Develop electrical substation drawings including single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, physical layouts, sections and elevations, and other related details and sketches Perform design calculations and analysis such as grounding system analysis, lightning protection, voltage drop, power system sizing (AC and DC), and other industry-standard calculations Review and perform formal QA/QC services on drawings performed by others and provide feedback to team members Develop technical equipment and construction specifications, work scopes, estimates, and recommendation reports as needed by the project Work closely with Civil Engineers to develop foundation and structure drawings, including mounting patterns and equipment layouts Perform site visits and provide on-site technical support during construction and commissioning Mentoring and teaching junior engineers and technicians Assist in the preparation of proposals including cost estimates, description of project approach, and scheduling Lead and/or take part in meetings with representatives from clients and other engineering firms Develop strong relationships and establish trusted partnerships with clients Education & Experience
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience Professional Engineering License preferred 8 - 12 years’ experience in electrical design involving power systems Qualifications
Must be 18 years of age or older Strong technical writing skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Comfortable meeting face to face with clients, strong communication skills both written and verbal Experience with Protection and Control design, including familiarity with one-line diagrams of several different station configurations Ability to read a one-line and ascertain a high-level understanding of the station or facility question Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, NEC, NEMA, and other industry standards and their applicability to different types of substations Ability to use drafting software(s) preferred Ability and willingness to work occasional extra hours to support clients and deadlines, including weekends Must be proficient with typical office software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Windows About Us
