About the Role
The Company is in search of a Vice President for Zoological Operations to lead and oversee all zoological programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for the management and advancement of animal welfare, collection planning, supervision of animal management, health, education, water quality, and life support. This role also involves ensuring regulatory compliance, permitting, and the quality of exhibits, as well as leading efforts in animal training, enrichment, and species conservation. The VP will be expected to meet and exceed various accreditation and certification standards, propose and implement best practices in animal management, and actively contribute to staff safety and professional development. Collaboration with all departments and facilities is essential, as is the ability to create positive visitor experiences and manage a team focused on education, animal care, and rescue.
To succeed in this position, candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, a veterinary medical degree, or equivalent experience, with a minimum of 8 years in zoological operations and 4 years in a management role. Experience in an AZA-accredited zoo is required, along with exceptional communication skills, the ability to make public presentations, and a proven track record of building strong relationships with various stakeholders. The role demands a visionary leader with a dedication to education, conservation, and entertainment, who can ensure the proper care and exhibiting of all animals, and is adept at planning and overseeing budgets. The VP will also be responsible for the professional development of their team, so the ability to mentor and inspire is crucial.
