Position Overview: Disaster Support Volunteers play a vital role in educating, empowering, and connecting seniors to disaster preparedness and recovery resources. Volunteers support monthly community-based meetings and activities that are both informative and social, helping to strengthen emotional resilience and community readiness before, during, and after storms. Key Responsibilities: Assist with organizing and leading monthly disaster preparedness events in senior communities Share clear, easy-to-understand information about topics such as evacuation plans, supply kits, fraud prevention, and emotional resilience Encourage seniors to connect with neighbors and participate in creating a community disaster plan Help distribute preparedness materials and resource guides Provide a friendly, supportive presence to help reduce anxiety and increase confidence among older adults Support social and interactive activities that promote learning and connection Qualifications: CPR and First Aid certified (or willing to complete training through the program). Compassionate, patient, and able to work effectively with seniors and other vulnerable populations. Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team. Time Commitment: Flexible availability during disaster recovery periods, including potential extended hours and days. Participation in monthly training sessions, team drills, and readiness activities during non-disaster times.
