Negotiable Responsibilities

Gather data from sources such as satellite imagery, aerial photographs, surveys, and GPS measurements. Process and analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and relationships. Apply statistical techniques and spatial analysis to draw meaningful conclusions. Use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to create maps that accurately represent geographic features, boundaries, and other relevant information. Validate data accuracy, perform quality control, and ensure maps and geographic databases meet established standards. Stay updated on cartography techniques, tools, and technologies. Research and analyze new data sources, mapping techniques, and software to improve map accuracy and efficiency. Regularly update maps and geographic databases to reflect changes in boundaries, infrastructure, and other relevant information. Ensure timely delivery of updated maps. Assist the WMATA team in understanding and effectively using map products and software. Troubleshoot technical issues related to data, design, and GIS software. Adhere to regulatory requirements, such as copyright restrictions, privacy laws, and data protection regulations, when using and sharing geographic data. Work well with surveyors, planners, and technologists to integrate geospatial data into other projects as necessary. Background and Experience Required

Strong knowledge and experience in using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software, such as ArcGIS, to create and analyze maps. Strong knowledge of UX design principles and processes. Ability to analyze and interpret complex geographical data using statistical techniques, spatial analysis methods, and data visualization tools. Skill in designing accessible, intuitive, visually appealing, and informative maps with a keen eye for detail and aesthetics. Knowledge of map design principles, typography, color theory, and symbolization techniques. Familiarity with geospatial data formats (e.g., shapefiles, GeoTIFF, KML), data sources (satellite imagery, GPS data), and map projection systems. Strong attention to detail and accuracy when working with spatial data and creating maps. Ability to identify and correct errors or inconsistencies in data. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve mapping issues, data inconsistencies, and technical challenges. Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Excellent organizational skills to maintain accurate records and documentation. Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in cartography, geography, geomatics, or a related field Proven experience in cartography or a related field, preferably in a professional setting. Proven experience in User Experience design. Proficiency with GIS software and other relevant tools. Strong knowledge of geography, geospatial concepts, and map projection systems. Familiarity with data collection methods, such as GPS surveys, remote sensing, and aerial photography. Understanding of cartographic principles, including map design, symbolization, and data visualization techniques. Ability to interpret and analyze spatial data using statistical methods or software. Knowledge of various mapping standards and protocols, such as those established by the International Cartographic Association (ICA) or the National Map Accuracy Standards (NMAS).
