Position Purpose

This position requires an employment law specialization to represent the Company in employment legal claims, agency charges (EEO and state equivalent), and litigation. Prior in-house experience and/or employment class action experience are a plus. The ultimate objective of this position is to minimize the legal exposure of the Company in employment legal matters. Advises and consults with managers and other departments on various HR and employment legal issues, and educates internal clients on proactive measures and approaches to reducing potential legal exposure. Responsibilities

Litigates federal, state, and local employment law claims, administrative charges and lawsuits involving Home Depot. Manages outside counsel on handling employment claims, charges and lawsuits. Advises various departments and managers on a wide range of HR and employment legal issues in a fast-paced retail environment. Supervises and conducts appropriate legal research for all pending legal work. Collaborates and supervises THD Legal Specialists, and partners with internal THD HR resources regarding claims, charges, lawsuits, etc. Key Responsibilities

Defends employment claims, administrative charges and lawsuits involving The Home Depot. Collaborates and interacts with outside counsel regarding claims, lawsuits, et. al. Advises various departments and managers on a diverse range of legal issues. Supervises and conducts appropriate legal research for all pending legal work. May draft and file annual disclosure documents with various government agencies. May manage and track budgets. Direct Manager/Direct Reports

Typically reports to Assistant General Counsel Areas of specialization are Employment Law, Employee Relations and Litigation Travel Requirements

Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time. Physical Requirements

Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles. Working Conditions

Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable. Under regular pressure to meet deadlines, quotas and/or must frequently deal with difficult issues related to people or situations. Minimum Qualifications

Must be eighteen years of age or older. Must be legally permitted to work in the United States. Preferred Qualifications

The ability to confront conflict and difficult issues in a professional, assertive and proactive manner. The self-starting ability to aggressively tackle new responsibilities and initiatives prior to receiving sufficient training or completely clear direction. The ability to develop, organize, implement and manage standard procedures and train outside counsel and paralegals in the procedures. High degree of oral and written communication skills. Analytical skills.
