Deputy Counsel for Litigation

in the Office of Court Administration in Albany, NY. Deputy Counsel work under the general direction of the Counsel to the Office of Court Administration (OCA) and are significantly involved in assisting in the overall management of Counsel's Office. Base pay range $177,560.00/yr - $188,350.00/yr Key Responsibilities

Overseeing and coordinating all litigation matters involving the UCS and its employees. Serving as the primary liaison with the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) on litigation matters, including ensuring that the OAG is advised in a timely manner when cases are filed where the OAG will be providing representation, and ensuring proper oversight and handling of those cases. Supervising OCA Counsel’s Office attorneys handling litigation and administrative proceedings, including assigning cases, reviewing work product and monitoring performance. Serving as counsel and appearing in cases when needed. Conducting legal research and providing legal advice and guidance to UCS personnel on litigation and other issues. Ensuring that UCS Leadership is kept apprised of developments in significant litigation matters. Serving on various internal UCS committees and working groups. Undertaking other tasks as assigned. Qualifications

Admission to the New York State Bar and a minimum of seven (7) years of legal experience. Candidates with substantial New York State and federal litigation experience, as well as candidates with supervisory experience, are encouraged to apply. Candidates should have substantial experience in handling and overseeing litigation, strong leadership qualities, demonstrated success working with management and other governmental entities, strong written and oral skills, and excellent interpersonal skills.
