Senior Staff Engineer- Service Infrastructure at Stripe. Service Infrastructure drives Stripe’s internal abstraction ecosystem to enable optimal scale, performance, and reliability for Stripe’s products. We identify and proactively remediate architectural limitations to enable Stripe to realize its product strategy. We provide an exceptional developer experience so product engineers building on top of Stripe’s infrastructure platforms can move on new features quickly, while maintaining six nines of availability despite growth. The frameworks, SDKs, platform capabilities, async infrastructure, and tooling we build support Stripe’s payment, money movement, fraud detection, billing, crypto onramp, and other products. They abstract complex infrastructure and expose easy-to-use, resilient, and scalable developer capabilities with built-in reliability primitives. Service Infrastructure collaborates with nearly every engineering team and plays a critical role in product launches and infrastructure improvements. We’re looking for engineering leaders who can drive the technical vision of Stripe’s service infrastructure for thousands of engineers and thrive in a highly autonomous environment. You will design and deliver capabilities, abstractions, and tools that provide Stripe engineers with a world-class developer experience and advance our infrastructure for reliability and performance. You’ll collaborate with engineers across the company to design and build large-scale capabilities, while enhancing internal engineering standards, tooling, and processes. You’ll operate with a strong user focus and translate business needs into engineering plans that deliver high-impact results. Responsibilities

Lead the design, planning, construction, and maintenance of Service Infrastructure frameworks and SDKs used across Stripe. Collaborate with leadership to identify current and future infrastructure needs, prioritize short- and long-term solutions. Influence and participate in company-wide roadmap planning and prioritization. Drive project execution across the full development lifecycle with high quality and timely delivery. Facilitate technical discussions and decision-making across the Infrastructure organization and product teams. Mentor engineers and cultivate the next generation of technical leaders at Stripe. Identify and fix architectural limitations that hinder Stripe’s goals. Debug production issues across services and stack layers. Foster a collaborative, inclusive environment and promote knowledge sharing and continuous improvement. Minimum Requirements

15+ years of professional experience in an infrastructure-focused software development role. Experience leading engineering teams on API design, abstractions, frameworks, or developer products. Strong background in distributed infrastructure and/or platform services, including developer-facing abstractions, productivity tooling, storage, databases, or compute. Experience leading cross-team or company-wide projects. Experience scaling and migrating systems with minimal downtime. Experience mentoring engineers at various levels. Experience driving operational excellence with metrics, alerts, and dashboards. Proven track record delivering pragmatic solutions that accelerate business growth. Autonomy and accountability; strong written and verbal communication. Proficient in at least one Stripe core language (Java, Ruby, Python, Go). Preferred Qualifications

Strong communication skills for different audiences (leadership, users, company-wide). Experience with a range of infrastructure platforms (databases, logging, event streams, metrics, caching, etc). Experience leading partially remote teams. Experience developing sustainable in-house framework and abstraction ecosystems in large engineering orgs. Experience building serverless platforms. Experience managing incident response processes and on-call rotations. In-office expectations

Office attendance expectations vary by location and role. Some locations require spending a portion of time in the office monthly; hiring managers will discuss expectations with you. This balances in-person collaboration with flexibility where possible. Pay and benefits

The annual US base salary range for this role is $267,000 - $400,400. Salary ranges may be narrowed during the interview process based on experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants outside the US may request the salary range for their location during the interview process. Additional benefits may include equity, bonuses or commissions, 401(k), medical/dental/vision benefits, and wellness stipends.
