Fortune Brands Innovations is in search of a Senior Software Quality Assurance Engineer to join our engineering team for next generation product development. The IoT-focused role validates software implementations and changes to ensure safe, high-quality releases and a delightful user experience across embedded firmware, hardware, and mobile applications. Position location:
San Francisco, CA or Deerfield, IL office. Responsibilities
Serve as the domain expert for software quality and validation. Test software running in IoT connected products across embedded firmware, hardware, and Android/iOS apps. Design and develop test scenarios to exercise functionality, validate specifications, verify stability under stress, and assess usability. Leverage automation tools and implement complementary manual test strategies. Lead test plan execution on complex projects; guide junior colleagues on test plans, problem reporting, and resolution. Collaborate in a cross-disciplinary agile team including Hardware, Software, and non-engineering support staff. Develop and archive test suite programs to enable retesting after production release and support field updates validation. Prioritize test cases based on end-user relevance and value to maximize coverage. Collaborate with the Design Team to leverage automatic builds for nightly regression tests. Work with Developers to isolate, reproduce, and troubleshoot issues and drive to resolution. Act as a gatekeeper for software quality to ensure critical defects are addressed before product launch. Able to switch between project priorities based on business needs. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of experience in Quality Assurance or Test Automation with experience testing embedded firmware or software apps. Capable of testing embedded and non-embedded software in consumer products that may be IoT or non-IoT with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity. Strong understanding of Software QA tools, techniques, and best practices (e.g., black box testing, regression testing, Firebase, Jenkins, Jira, TestRail or equivalents). Experience with Wi-Fi and home networking technologies, particularly for low-power IoT devices and troubleshooting. Experience testing Matter with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Apple Home, and Samsung SmartThings is preferred. Strong analytical, documentation, test planning, and communication skills. Curiosity and drive to expose defects and maximize product quality. Ability to advocate for quality across cross-development teams spanning Electrical, Mechanical, and Software, as well as Marketing, Product, Program, Design, and Manufacturing. Ability to install Yale/August devices in residence is a plus. Additional Information
Fortune Brands believes in fair and equitable pay. A base salary range is $100,000–$165,000 USD. Actual salaries vary based on education, experience, and location. Eligible for annual bonus or role-based incentive plans, as applicable.
