The Workplace Services team designs, administers, and operates enterprise-wide platforms used for core workplace technologies and end-user digital experiences. The Solution Architect for Workplace Services will shape and execute innovative workplace solutions related to collaborative platforms and digital experience technologies, and will engage with teams to ensure ongoing operations and sustained engineering meet Costco’s evolving technology landscape. The ideal candidate will possess a combination of technical expertise, business acumen, and a passion for driving transformative change. Role context: This is a full-time management/leadership position. Responsibilities
Designs, develops, and ensures compliance to architectural standards throughout the lifecycle. Analyzes the Business-IT environment to detect deficiencies and recommend improvements (systems of record, differentiation, and innovation). Identifies aging technology issues or misalignment with business requirements and proposes solutions. Partners with Enterprise Architects for domain roadmaps and reference architecture. Executes projects and initiatives on the domain roadmap in partnership with Enterprise Architects. Consults with application and infrastructure development projects and modifies projects to accommodate the solution architecture as needed. Ensures cohesiveness of solution designs across projects/solutions. Collaborates with Enterprise Architects to balance needs between Solution Architectural Guardrails. Designs, develops, and directs solution architectures, governance activities, and design exceptions in compliance with standards and security guidelines. Identifies organizational and financial impact of solutions architecture. Creates non-functional specs for operational agility, disaster recovery, and support. Establishes solution delivery flow for continuous integration, testing and delivery, and deployment in partnership with project managers and stakeholders. Conducts design reviews to validate alignment with architecture. Modifies solution architecture to support changing requirements. Documents solutions architecture design and communicates architectural decisions. Defines principles, guidelines, standards, and patterns aligned with the enterprise future-state architecture. Communicates concepts to all levels of management and develops documentation for technical solutions. Ensures adherence to Costco’s Architectural Framework and Governance model. Researches and collaborates with stakeholders to understand technical requirements, trends, and strategies related to the digital workplace experience. Designs and develops innovative solutions addressing employee productivity, collaboration, and standardized tool utilization. Leads the implementation and integration of Workplace Services solutions with existing systems and infrastructure. Creates architectural artifacts such as reference architectures and execution roadmaps. Assesses project information to understand scope and priorities. Translates business requirements into technical solutions leveraging standardized workplace technologies. Documents the proposed high-level solution, including use of COTS packages for digital workplace solutions. Monitors and evaluates performance of Workplace Services solutions, recommending enhancements. Ensures thorough testing and quality assurance. Provides architectural guidance and support to Workplace Services teams. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to align solutions with organizational goals. Creates high-level models guiding solution architecture, including components, data-flow, security, deployment, and integration points. Advises on cloud and on-premise service use to solve end-user challenges. Stays abreast of emerging Workplace Services technologies and trends and incorporates them into designs. Facilitates business improvement through modernized architecture and maintains urgency within the team. Upskills the team as needed to support modernized systems. Supports 24x7 on-call as scheduled and travel as required. Qualifications
Required
8+ years of professional Information Technology experience in solutioning, designing, development, and delivering computer systems. 5+ years of hands-on experience in designing, implementing, and supporting digital end-user SaaS and/or shared platform solutions. 3+ years of technical team leadership experience. In-depth understanding of Google Workspace platform technologies including application suite and administrative console. Knowledge of Google Workspace tangential system integrations (security, data analysis, end-user management). Strong proficiency in solution architecture principles and methodologies. Understanding of emerging technologies to support new solutions. Strong time management and task prioritization skills. Experience creating long and short-term plans with milestones and deadlines. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement. Proven leadership, governance, and collaboration skills. Ability to work independently and in a team to drive technology evolution with engineers and domain experts. Knowledge of application architecture and design methodologies across multiple platforms. Experience designing solutions for multiple SDLC methods (waterfall, SCRUM, Kanban, etc). Team player within a matrix organization; able to communicate trade-offs to technical and business teams. HIPAA Training and Supervisors Orientation (within 30 days of hire). Available to work nights/weekends, travel as required, and perform 24x7 on-call support as scheduled. Recommended
