Overview

Meta is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Design Lead experienced in the design and construction of Critical Facilities to join our data center design team. Our data centers are the foundation upon which our software operates. Building and operating reliable and efficient data centers is essential to support the growth of Meta. The data center design team collaborates with multiple key stakeholders to ensure engineering and design of our data centers incorporate considerations from micro-levels (servers and IT equipment design requirements) to macro-levels (mechanical cooling and power distribution options) to ensure maximum efficiency and reliability of our compute infrastructure. This role will lead design and construction administration as an Owner Representative leading the Mechanical Engineer discipline as a subject matter expert. The Mechanical Engineer will collaborate with internal partners including Engineering, Construction Management, Quality, and Operations as well as external partners including engineers of record (EoR), general contractors, and regulatory agencies to deliver data center capacity safely, on time, within budget, and of high quality. This is a full-time position providing directional guidance aligned with the pace of fast-tracked construction.

Responsibilities

Lead projects through concept, schematic, design development, construction documents, construction administration and turnover as technical domain lead for Mechanical Engineering (ME) on new builds (greenfield), leased facilities and retrofits.

Collaborate with internal cross-functional partners and external partners (EoR, contractors, regulatory agencies) to resolve issues and lead risk mitigation, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery with emphasis on safety, quality, operability and sustainability.

Prepare and issue RFPs, analyze and make award recommendations, manage contracts, review change proposals, invoices, submittals, RFIs, and other design-related deliverables.

Hold EoR teams accountable on deliverables by providing actionable feedback and participating in project health reviews.

Identify and mitigate risks with stakeholders, embedding lessons learned to optimize schedules as needed.

Participate in factory tests, onsite testing, commissioning, and quality checks to ensure proper installation and integration with other critical systems.

Facilitate transparent communication among internal teams, consultants, and contractors to resolve issues and establish way-forward plans.

Maintain project knowledge repositories, status, decisions, and planning documents; maintain accurate records and documentation.

Provide cadenced program/project updates to internal stakeholders and coordinate information sharing with external partners.

Provide technical expertise to ensure designs meet owner requirements and industry standards for critical facility systems, including M/OFE.

Collaborate with other technical disciplines to ensure fully functioning, integrated systems and guide cross-discipline interactions within the Meta Design team and EOR.

Develop onboarding and cross-discipline knowledge to support continuity of design.

Lead Mechanical Engineering discipline design, delivery and quality meetings to resolve critical design issues; support innovation in Design-Construction technology and processes.

Engage with the Quality Team on area walkdowns, system integration, issue resolution, and commissioning script review and implementation.

Support Facilities Engineering and Operations with knowledge sharing, technical guidance, and system operation throughout the project schedule.
