Field Service Engineer – Control Systems (PLC & HMI) – Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Biochemical, Chemical, Environmental, Electrical, or Mechanical) or a related technical field. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Field Service Engineer – Control Systems to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the development, implementation, and optimization of chemical manufacturing processes, with a strong emphasis on PLC and HMI control systems. You will play a key role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our operations, while also supporting the design and integration of physical and chemical water treatment systems. Responsibilities

Design, program, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI systems for chemical manufacturing processes. Lead the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of control systems at client sites. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize process performance and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards. Provide technical support and training to clients and internal teams. Contribute to the design and implementation of physical/chemical water treatment systems. Manage project timelines, documentation, and reporting. Travel

Travel on Mondays to client sites. On-site work from Tuesday through Thursday. Return travel on Fridays. One week per month based in the office. This position offers a dynamic and hands-on opportunity to contribute to innovative process solutions in a fast-paced, client-focused environment. Control System Design – Responsibilities

Work closely with Sales Engineer, Project Manager and Project Engineer in the creation and customization of water/wastewater products and systems. Ensure all engineering and design tasks are completed on time and on budget while upholding the highest quality along with meeting customer technical requirements. Conduct factory testing of controls and automation systems, travel to customer locations for field testing, troubleshoot systems remotely working with field engineers. Design controls and automation systems, including motor control panels, PLC and instrument panels, while applying knowledge of NEC, UL and CE standards. Write PLC and HMI programs using Allen Bradley, Siemens, Modicon and GE PLCs and HMIs, and configure communication protocols for PLC, including Ethernet IP and Modbus. Write instruction manuals for controls and automation systems. System Process Startup – Responsibilities

On-site process start-up and operations leadership and support for full scale installations and pilot studies for product line selling efforts. Perform process and controls training for customers. Perform analytical testing on water and wastewater samples and evaluate results for process adjustments and improvements. Data analysis and process troubleshooting both on-site and remotely. Assess and resolve process, instrumentation, electrical, and mechanical issues in the field. Provide written and verbal summaries of work activities to customer and internal team. Identify, coordinate, and engage with other functional teams to complete assignments. Support product development and improvement initiatives and share lessons learned in the field to assist in product improvement. Compile data and write summary reports of pilot and research activities. Position Requirements

Required Skills: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Biochemical, Chemical, Environmental, Electrical, or Mechanical) or a related technical field. Minimum of 5 years of experience in the wastewater industry, with hands-on experience in control systems and related technologies. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to work well with others with minimal supervision. Compensated for travel to and from airport - Ability to travel up to 50-75% domestically and 10% internationally (Canada). Preferred Skills: Mechanical aptitude and ability to assess and respond to issues as they arise. Experience with process equipment, instrumentation, and controls. Knowledge of the product line or closely related products is highly desirable. Experience with Biological Treatment Design and Physical/Chemical Water Treatment Design. Experience 2D and 3D CAD design. Experience with PLC and HMI programming. Strong Excel Skills. Xylem does not provide visa sponsorship for this position. The estimated salary range for this position is $72,300.00 to $130,100.00 plus bonus. Starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience and work location, and is not typically at the top of the range.
