Southbridge Public Schools serve approximately 2,000 students across six schools. Overview
Position: Literacy Specialist (Grades 2-5) focused on literacy interventions within MTSS/SRBI frameworks. The role collaborates with classroom teachers and specialists to identify student needs, plan interventions, and support literacy development for English language learners and students with diverse needs. Responsibilities
Demonstrated successful classroom teaching experience Evidence of well-developed knowledge and implementation of best practices in teaching literacy, Grades 2-5 Proven ability to work collaboratively with adults Capacity to develop, model, and deliver effective learning interventions Ability to assess performance, analyze data and plan long- and short-term interventions Collaborate with classroom teachers and other specialists to provide literacy interventions for students Utilize research-based knowledge in identifying needs and providing interventions Consult with educators about the SRBI process/plan Work collaboratively with teachers and other specialists in Grades 2-5 to identify students needing intervention and to plan improvement strategies Collaborate with professional staff to ensure integration of literacy with MTSS and Special Education processes Provide professional development and coaching related to balanced literacy Work with English language learners as part of MTSS Design, deliver, and assess effective interventions for small groups and individual students Design, implement, monitor, and adjust data collection, analysis, and utilization to meet student needs Keep informed of new developments and trends in literacy to explore innovations and new materials district-wide Pursue professional development to expand coaching knowledge and skills Any other assigned duties by the Superintendent of Schools or designee Promote equity and appreciation of diversity to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning, including strategies for students with special needs, with 504 plans, and/or second language learners Participate in school-wide professional development and seek continual feedback and coaching to develop as a teacher Assure equal educational opportunity to all individuals regardless of race, color, gender, age, marital status, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, homelessness, or disability Qualifications - Required
Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution Valid Massachusetts Teaching License as an ECE Teacher or a Reading Specialist Valid Massachusetts SEI Endorsement OR Grade-level appropriate ESL License Meet all state and federal guidelines to be fully licensed and Highly Qualified Current authorization to work in the United States by first day of employment Qualifications - Preferred
Experience in urban, high-poverty, and/or turnaround schools Major/minor in specific teaching content area Additional certification in Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities and/or English Language Learners (ESL) Demonstrated experience in English Language Development (ELD) and Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) strategies Bilingual proficiency (Spanish/English) strongly preferred Equal Opportunity Employer
