Job Summary:

This part-time/contractor role oversees day-to-day Human Resources operations and administrative support. Core responsibilities include recruiting and onboarding new employees, processing payroll, administrating employee benefits, maintaining HR policies and records, and leading employee engagement activities. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, people-focused coordinator who can keep HR operations compliant and running smoothly on a reduced schedule.

Organizational Chart / Reporting Relationship:

· No direct supervisory responsibilities.

· Provides coaching and leadership for roles within the company.

· This position plays an important role in modeling and supporting a collaborative and results-oriented culture at Turtle Fur.


Duties & Responsibilities:

Recruiting & Onboarding

· Partner with hiring managers to define requirements, post jobs, source and screen candidates, and schedule interviews, and manage offer process.

· Coordinate end-to-end onboarding for new employees, including seasonal hires (offer letters, I-9/E-Verify, background checks, tax forms, direct deposit, handbook acknowledgment).

· Schedule and facilitate orientations; assign required trainings and track completion.

Payroll Administration

· Collect and verify timesheets; ensure accurate coding of hours, overtime, and PTO.

· Prepare and submit biweekly payroll; reconcile payroll reports and resolve discrepancies.

· Maintain payroll records in accordance with company policy and legal requirements.

Benefits & Leave

· Support benefits enrollment/changes for eligible employees; answer routine benefit questions.

· Coordinate with brokers/vendors; manage qualifying life events and annual open enrollment.

· Track and document leaves of absence and PTO balances.

Policies, Compliance & Records

· Maintain and update the employee handbook and HR policies; communicate changes.

· Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations (posters, notices, wage/hour).

· Maintain secure, organized personnel files; prepare HR reports/metrics.

Employee Relations & Support

· Serve as a first point of contact for HR inquiries; escalate sensitive matters appropriately.

· Support performance review cycles, corrective actions documentation, and exit processes.

Employee Engagement & Culture

· Own the annual engagement calendar and budget (team-building, recognition, wellness, volunteer/service events).

· Plan and execute company events; coordinate vendors, venues, and logistics.

· Administer pulse/annual engagement surveys; analyze results and recommend action plans.

· Manage recognition programs and internal HR communications.

Administrative Assistant Support

· Manage calendars, schedule meetings/interviews, and coordinate company events.

· Prepare correspondence, forms, and spreadsheets; handle office supply/vendor coordination.

· Assist leadership with special projects and general administrative tasks.


Leadership & Collaboration

· Member of Management Team – contributes to development of the overall business strategy and supports implementation and achievement of company goals and priorities.

· Consistently exhibits company values and ethos in all interactions with associates, customers, suppliers, and external constituents; Role models and complies with company code of conduct, policies, and procedures.

· Creates a culture of accountability while maintaining the camaraderie and friendly nature so valued by the staff and leadership team of Turtle Fur.

· Measures and monitors progress against strategies, objectives, and performance targets; establishes and follows departmental processes and procedures.

Education & Experience:

· Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field, or equivalent experience.

· Five years of progressively responsible experience in human resources.

· SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) current certification preferred.

· Prior payroll and benefits management experience preferred.


Working Environment/Physical Activities:

· Work schedule: Daily, up to 25 hours/week

· Work location: Primarily in office, with some remote work allowed on occasion.

· Periodic access / communication outside normal business hours.

· Standard business environment.

· Bending, and reaching forward, sideways, and overhead; finger dexterity to perform functions on computer and access files; sitting for long periods at a time.
