Principal Satcom Systems Engineer
This position will report to the Manager of Tactical Solutions Systems and Test Engineering. This position has responsibility for leading systems engineering tasks associated with the development of tactical solutions flight systems and sub systems with an emphasis on Phased Array and Satellite Communications technologies. Perform systems engineering tasks throughout the lifecycle of tactical programs or R&D projects. Support the development, test and evaluation of hardware, software, support equipment and systems as required. Provide technical expertise and support to business development team. Link budget analysis for SATCOM and LOS communications. System requirements derivation and composition. System cascade analysis. Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule. Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment. Perform other duties as necessary. This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required. Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment. May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required. May access other facilities in various weather conditions. Required Education, Experience, & Skills: BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 6 or more years related experience. Each higher-level related degree, i.e., Masters Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of related experience. Subject Matter Expert (SME) in SATCOM Systems and Design supporting DoD and Commercial communications. Excellent communication skills are essential, including the ability to understand the customers needs and provide clear communication of proposed solutions to both BAE Systems Inc. management and the customer. Familiar with Military and Commercial SATCOM terminal requirements, validation, and certification. Experience designing terminals for use on LEO, MEO, GEO based constellations Familiar with Line-of-Sight (LOS) based communication systems. Experience with System Integration aboard DoD platforms. Experience with Software Defined Radio systems, including FPGA and SW based waveform development. Experience leading teams of Engineers in all disciplines, from product conception to final delivery. Experience with government proposals, including composing Statements of Work (SOW) and Technical Specifications. Intimately familiar with antenna design and performance parameters. Familiar with Phased Array Antenna design. Familiar with antenna performance validation methodologies, including indoor range and outdoor testing. Familiar with RF design concepts. Proficient in MATLAB. Familiarity with antenna and RF test equipment: signal generators, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, etc. Familiarity with SATCOM terminal integration for MODEMs supporting multiple orbits and networks Ability to perform link budgets, coverage analysis and SATCOM terminal performance predictions Experience with typical SATCOM terminal hardware: frequency conversion, references, MODEMs, Antennas, etc. Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills: Advanced computer application skills, such as Matlab, C, C++, IDL, STK, DOORS, Python, and other analytical tools. MBSE tool experience. Experience with Systems Engineering execution. Demonstrated leadership and management skills ability to coordinate activities of a team, predict and meet schedules, resolve disconnects.
