The purpose of Penn State ARL is to develop innovative solutions to challenging national problems in support of the Navy, Department of Defense (DoD), and intelligence communities. You will join a team of scientists and engineers performing a wide range of applied research and development projects involving electro-optical and electronic manufacturing technology.You will:Apply basic knowledge of electro-optical, electronic and engineering science principalsPerform research and development tasks in manufacturing technology engineeringPlan and manage project tasks to achieve research contract goalsCollaborate with other engineers, scientists and technical staff including the Penn State ARL research team, faculty at Penn State, DoD laboratories, DoD program offices and related industry teams to accomplish project and organizational goalsDocument your work in technical reports and present your work to a variety of audiencesThis position can be filled at multiple levels depending upon education and experience. Minimally requires a Bachelors' degree in an engineering or science discipline. Additional education and/or experience are required for higher-level positions. A Master's degree is preferredHigher-level responsibilities include:Excellent organization, presentation, interpersonal, and communication skillsAbility to work effectively as part of a project teamAssist in new concept development and development of project plans for new projects with internal and external stakeholders by identifying issues and solutionsAssist in project/task execution analyzing alternatives and applying engineering and project management techniques and proceduresRequired skills and experience includes:Experience with 3D modeling softwareAbility to complete CNC programmingFamiliarity with PID control and theoryExperience with robotic motion and controlA basic understanding of electro-optic and electronics manufacturing technologies for components and subsystemsAbility to clearly communicate, document, and present resultsDemonstrated ability to work independently, as part of a multidisciplinary team and adapt to changing requirementsPreferred skills and experience includes:Experience in electronics manufacturingA thorough understanding of electronics manufacturing technologies with the ability to recognize areas of manufacturing need and evaluate potential solutionsExperience with development, production or test of radar, electronic warfare and similar systemsExperience with project management and accompanying processes in a research project leadership roleExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAn active Secret security clearance with eligibility for TS/SCIWork location is at the Electro-Optics & Electronics Division in Freeport, PA.
