Senior Staff Process Development Engineer
Join Cenovus Energy as a Senior Staff Process Development Engineer to increase the front-end development at all our refinery assets. In this role, you'll oversee multiple engineering companies and embedded contractors, ensuring flawless execution. We seek an individual who excels in validating business needs, determining options, and developing improved solutions to minimize capital costs and improve our competitive edge! Relocation is required to any of our US refinery locations. What you'll do: Lead front-end development (FED) phases of capital projects, including scope definition, risk assessment, and contractor management. Collaborate with Procurement, EHS, Reliability, and Asset teams to ensure competitive bidding, compliance, and alignment with project goals. Manage contractor performance, site access, and safety requirements throughout project development and execution. Develop project justifications, economic models, and technical analyses to support capital planning and prioritization. Review and approve engineering deliverables such as PFDs, P&IDs, process design data, and equipment specifications. Support compliance activities including HazOp reviews, environmental permitting, and process safety documentation. Drive margin improvement initiatives by working with SMEs and technical teams to identify cost-effective solutions. Present strategic project updates to executive leadership, contributing to long-range planning and downstream business growth. Who you are: Legally authorized to work in the US Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Petroleum Engineering or equivalent experience 16+ years of proven experience in refining process engineering and project development Strong technical computing literacy for modeling, simulation, and data analysis Willing to travel 30-50% of the time to various asset locations We acknowledge the value of transferrable skills and may consider equivalent combinations of experience and education should you not meet a specific requirement.
